Understanding Stats

I'm using for my website on Futurequest two different stats programs. One is the one packaged with my account in the CNC(http-analyze); the other is Webtrends live. I can't understand how I can figure out the number of unique visitors per day in the Stats program packaged with my account. I was thinking that "sessions" was the same of unique users but it doesn't seem to work this way.

In fact today on webtrends 459 unique visitors resulted while on http-analyze there are about 1200 sessions. Can you help me?

I think, and someone else might confirm, that a SESSION is a continuous browsing from page to page inside the same browser window.
If you close the window, or visit a second site and come back later, then the first session is over.
