View Full Version : FQuest 1998 Year End Thoughts

The following is being typed verbose... I wouldn't dare quote me on the accuracy of dates etc... this is all off the top of my head and just thinking out loud as the new year approaches us..

FutureQuest 1998

January - The dream begins to surface into reality while living in Austin Texas. We diligently tried to acquire the domain name VisionQuest... could not. Nor could we register with VisionQuest as our legal business name. So we chose FutureQuest.net (.com was not available or we would have registered both). We begin building our dream.

February - We've now completed our move to Ocala Florida (insert personal story of Deb's divorce after year of separation and custody battle here)

!Wow! -- It's technically simple to setup a server... but not to set one up quite how we want it... still working http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

March - Ok, QMail is a gorilla of it's own... must learn QMail, must learn QMail, must learn QMail!!!!

April - QMail is our best friend... QMail has treated us very well. We are quite proud to offer such a powerful mail server!! Let's hook this system up to some high speed lines!!!

May - Deb wants SUSOGI.net -- Must build Susogi.net

June - SUSOGI.net is now up and running... we've got customers!!! WOOHOO we're in business now http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

July - SUSOGI.net is growing.. Deb wants Lils.net -- Must build Lils.net!!

August - hmmmm not many customers.. must pay bill for high speed lines... we need mail manager!

September - Watching Babylon5 series on US Television and notice they have a Command And Control area for the ship. hmmm There's an idea... Must build CNC for FQuest!!

October - Deb's divorce is legally finalized (ggeesshh took long enough) FQuest is much work but it's worth it, we think? Now if we could only figure out how to get more site owners to choose us.... getting nervous about losing so much money on high speed lines. Let's see, we've submitted our name to all of the host directories we could find. We've added the CNC and some more scripts... we are totally dedicated to anyone who will talk to us... we live on the pc's to assure we answer and serve with speed and knowledge... the server is coded correctly.... we are getting a few customers here and there, but not enough to keep things running. We are getting a bad reputation for not being in business long enough. If nothing happens by the end of next month we've lost everything and are doomed.

November - WOW the first week of this month was busy!! Woah!! The second week of this month was twice as busy!!! Hey third week and still going strong! Wow! What happened? We've got site owners choosing FutureQuest and they are happy with us!!! WOOHOOO!!!!! We paid the high speed lines bill plus upgraded the server!! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif)))))) We're a real hosting company now! The dream is a reality!

December - Reality shows itself in it's true form this month. The phone company tosses us 13 hours of down time in a single day right after the major holiday not to mention we've had to restructure the stats among other things to handle the load. This really is work :P We LOVE our job.. we are thrilled with the community atmosphere that is developing, we can't believe the way the site owners treat us during the worst of virtual times, we want to grow...no.. we ARE GOING to grow! Not too much though.. we've considered not accepting new accounts a couple times this month but so far haven't had to. Next month we may need to for a short while so that we may not only add a second server but also move into a location with bigger, better, faster lines along with adding another server and hiring a bit help to assure quality of service. The catch is being able to do this in such a way that the site owners will move with us (grin)

We realize many dreams are coming true, not without a LOT of hard work, total sleep deprivation, weight loss, stress, and brain cramping equations, but coming true none the less.

Andrew and Debbie get married - Dec 30th 1998. (shhh don't tell anyone... we snuck out to accomplish this, in between support emails, along with a beeper and a prayer that we could do so safely.)

1998 was a year of turning dreams into reality for us...

1999 is going to be a year of enhancements, growth, new friendships, and showing off a new way of doing business on the net... it's almost humorous when you think about it. Because our new way of doing business is all in doing it the old fashioned way http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!!!

Cool!

Thanks for sharing the makings of your dreams with us! And I don't think that we ourselves have actually congratulated you on the wedding yet -- awesome!!

Love ya Deb, and we love FQuest and Susogi, too!

And if you could be so kind to squeeze it in . . . could you please reserve a full domain space for us on FQuest? I think we'll be wanting to start setting it up within the next week or two, and we wouldn't want to go with anyone else. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Wow, that's a lot of work in ONE year! Congrats! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I didn't know FutureQuest was THAT new to having customers when I signed up on December 12th. I found FutureQuest from word of mouth, it's a very powerful thing. FutureQuest was the #1 recomendation by people in all the web hosting message boards on the net. In fact, it seemed to be the ONLY recomended hosting service in those forums!!! FutureQuest is one of the few hosting companies that doesn't have horror stories floating around the net by unhappy ex-clients. So, I went and checked it out. I sent an e-mail asking a few questions, then I had lunch. When I came back, I already had an e-mail reply answering ALL my questions. Refreshing. So, I signed up w/ FutureQuest right away! Then, I got a phone call within minutes! That's great, your personal touch will really get you places in this booming industry. I love doing business w/ REAL PEOPLE! Best of luck for EVERYONE in 1999.

Congrats Andrew and Deb!

My anniversary was December 28 (13 years!) and we were married a few months after my long drawn out yucky divorce was finalized. It's definitely sweeter the second time around http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Congrats too on FutureQuest. I can't wait to get all of my sites moved over here. You guys have been so terrific with the support and encouragement. I'll take your small homegrown company over my (almost!) former large host any day!

Warm wishes,
