I have on a couple of occasions come to the forums and spotted lots of purple icons indicating new posts.

I then click the "View New Posts" link at the top of the main forums page but am then told there are no new posts!

Worse if go back to to the forum main page and all those purple icons have gone, it thinks I have now read everything.

Has anyone else had problems with the FQ forums getting mixed up about what you have and have not read?

Not sure I've just got back after a week long holiday to only find about 10 new threads, which I thought was a bit low Figured that it only searched back a certain amount of time, but maybe there's more to it???

It's great for me - never had a single problem with it. Keep in mind that your last visit times are stored on the server, so if you visit from two different machines, the forum will reflect this.

Hey Jarrod (jokesplus),

Hello from Montepellier Wine Bar (GL50). Gosh it really is a small world!

Rob: I've been living that nightmare since the old forums were used. I guess it's one of those things I just need to adapt to.

Tony.

Rob, when you see the "lots of purple icons", is that before or after you've logged in?

For me, when I first visit the page, I see lots of purple icons. But I have not yet logged in. If I log in first, then I don't see so many. Then, when I click on "View new posts", it is corresponding to the number of purple icons I saw after logging in.

Sheila, in blatant disregard of going off topic I am compelled to finally mention something...

I personally think you have one of the most powerful and intriguing Avatars used in our forums... It really does make your presence known and carries the epitome of uniqueness...

What is the story behind your avatar, if any?

Wow, I'm surpised at these avatar comments! (Recently I was thinking of whether I should change...I guess NOT!)

Do you recognize that this is Audrey Hepburn portraying the character Holly Golightly in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's ? (There was a short novella written by Truman Capote, "Breakfast at Tiffany's"...the movie stays fairly true to the literary work, from which it is derived.)

I LOVE that movie (and the story by Mr. Capote, as well...). Are you looking for more of an explanation than this? (I suppose I could come up with something, but it probably is similar to asking a trekkie why they chose a shot of Nimoy portraying Spock as an avatar?)

Shall I tell some of the storyline of the movie or something?
Oh, here, I will just give links to the IMDB.
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0054698

I just love the Holly Golightly character: a little, lost girl who portrays herself as such a sophisticate, but really needs to figure out who she is and what she is looking for.

Uh, I recommend the movie?

Also, Audrey Hepburn is one of my favorite actresses, in almost any of her movies. I found this avatar while browsing avatar websites and it really wasn't much of a choice between this one and the others I found.

Thanks Sheila,

It seems you stumbled upon a winner! 8}

The picture itself almost looks futuristic and high-tech in a way, only to find out it's a blast from the past... :P

Strange indeed...

Now that you know the real story behind it, you and Deb should cuddle up with a copy of the movie and watch it together!

Logon? I guess I must have turned on a cookie or something because I've haven't had to "logon" to the forums for ages.

OK, then you must not be logging off each session.

I don't really know what the "recommended" method is for using the boards, but I log-off each session when I'm done, and then I logon when I return another time, and I'm having no problems with the "View New Posts" link. It works perfectly for me.

--take it from me, the one with the intriguing and powerful avatar, that carries the epitome of uniqueness. :P

P.S. The log-off button is at the bottom of the home screen. I wish they had one at the top of each page! <hint, hint...Deb?>
