Hi, I am new to this and need some simple advice. I am trying to set up my band's webpage . . . I am builing the page myself with software and we already have a domain name reserved at http://www.nektarine.la. Now, I just need to choose a web host /plan and I am confused as to what specs would constitue the following:

*How many MB of site space does about 50 pages of mostly still text/graphics(maybe an animated intro page) take up? Also, if we have mailing list that gets to be long after a while, does this take up more pages?

*How many GB of bandwidth is needed to smoothly run this site for, say, 10,000 hits/month if we also have 10 streaming audio files (song clips), a streaming video clip, a shopping cart (for selling CD's and band merch), a mailing list, and site statistics logs?

IF ANYONE HAS A SIMILAR WEBSITE (ENTERTAINMENT/ MUSIC) AND HAS HAD A GREAT OR BAD EXPERIENCE WITH A CERTAIN WEB HOST, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK!! I need help desperately with these questions so I can choose the right web host and plan and get our page up! Thanks so much one and all for any input!!!!

FutureQuest actually hosts a few band sites and quite a few Entertainment/Music sites.... One such site that sounds similar to what you have described is http://ZacharyWalkerBand.com/

I'm not sure how busy they are but you may want to toss them an email to see how it all works out for them from one band to another....

Most of the startups (first web sites etc) do fine beginning with the Basic Package and then moving up from there as they grow.... Regardless which host you choose, as long as their package includes the items you require...such as the mailing list, I would recommend starting small and then upgrading as needed. There is no reason to spend extra $$'s if you don't have to. Just make sure that changing packages does not carry a fee (with FutureQuest, and many others, upgrades are free).

- Some site owners should really consider giving The Zachary Walker Band (http://zacharywalkerband.com/) a listen.
