Hi, folks...
Trying to log in to telnet and it gets as far as asking me for login name and then when I try to type it in nothing happens (many tries) -- is this just heavy traffic bogging things down, or is there a problem?:(
I just tested the wordsculptors.com account (assuming that is the one you are referring to?) and did not see any problems. It shows you did manage to login today ... "Last login: Sat Jun 30 16:29:04"
You may want to just double check everything and see if you are having any problems in other areas.
<CORRECTION>
It just became apparent that it was another pesky tech support person that was able to login and not you that I saw :P
So many techs... so few problems ;)

Hi, Deb....
The reason you saw me logged in is that I logged in a couple of times today using Dreamweaver. Where I couldn't log in was through CNC because I don't know how to get to cgi-bin through dreamweaver. If you can tell me that I'll be back in business. Dreamweaver takes me to my www folder and I don't know how to back out of that.
Ok I just tested from the CNC and had no problems...
Steps I took.
1. Logged into the CNC using your account Username and Password
2. Clicked to enter the Telnet area from the top menu
3. In the telnet window where it requested Login I typed the same username that was used to enter the CNC
4 It then requests Password -- This is the "tricky part" for those not familiar with telnet. When you type in your password it will not LOOK like you are typing anything. So you have to be very careful to ensure you are tapping the correct keys. Once you have entered the password just hit Enter (return). Even though you will not be able to SEE anything being typed there...it is being typed.
After that I was in :)
Let me know if it's just the "hidden password" part that was messing you up or if there is a different part causing you problems. It's really hard to say what's going wrong without having more details concerning each step being taken and what is going wrong.

Well, I accomplished what I wanted to do with File Manager, which I hadn't used before and so it took a while for me to realize that was what I needed. However, when I was trying to use Telnet it would not let me in. There are no more details to give you than what I gave you before: at the login prompt it would not let me type my login name -- I never even got as far as my password. I just tried it again and the same thing happened. Not urgent since I did what needed doing by another means but you might see if you get any other complaints and if so then you prolly got a problem.
Hi,
Are you using a local machine based telnet application or the CNC telnet application?
If the CNC telnet application, what browser and platform are you accessing from.
I ask because I was the other "pesky" tech person that was able to access your account via telnet earlier today. %)
Thanks,
Bob

I'm using Internet Explorer 5 on a PC under Windows 2000 Pro, and using CNC telnet. Everything else works fine. I'm working again with Filequest right now so if you want to impersonate me maybe you better wait a while as I'm guessing the system won't let 'me' log in twice. I'll be done in another ten minutes.

OK, Bob, I'm done.
Hi again,
I was able to log into your CNC telnet client successfully, and into your account. So at this point I would have to speculate that it may be a local problem.
I used IE 6.0 on Win 2k.
Have you tried using your local, machine based, telnet client to access?
I would give that a shot and see where that takes you.
Have a Good One,
Bob

Well, I don't want to hassle it anymore because I used Filequest successfully instead. Thanks for your help, but now I have a new problem and started a new thread about my image files not showing up in Ikonboard altho I uploaded the GIF files under autodetect and then again as binary and I know they are in the right folder. See what you think. The subject is GIF into binary?
I cannot find any problems at all with the telnet client. It's possible your browser isn't accepting the Java ... If it is not able to work on your machine I would have to agree with Bob and recommend using the telnet client that came pre-installed with Windows...
You will find this by clicking on the START button
Then RUN
Within the "Open" text box type: telnet
Then click OK
The above should provide you with a telnet client.

I think the solution to the problem may be simply to click on the telnet applet and then type your name. When you start the telnet applet it doesn't have the focus by default, but that's not very clear.

When I start CNC Telnet the Login prompt is the only place you can enter anything. The problem is not with WHAT I enter, but that I can't enter anything at all. It simply does not accept ANY keyboard entry. Bob thinks the problem may be at my end because he doesn't have any trouble entering my login name from his end. But as I said before, since I solved the problem by using Filequest (which I should have done in the first place but I'm new to CNC and didn't realize what "File Manager" is about), I'm not worrying about the Telnet access, especially since I have no problems using the system otherwise. Odd that I experience this one glitch, huh?
Love your keyhole graphic!

What I mean is; open your CNC, click on the Telnet link, the telnet page opens, now try to type your login name -> doesn't work, with your mouse click on the telnet window in the middle, now try to type your name -> now it works.

You're right, I didn't see what you meant at first. But....I DO click on the window, after "login:", before trying to enter my name. Won't take it, not even the click because when it accepts the click a blinking cursor should appear. Nothing. That's a good perception, though, that someone might forget to do that. Thanks for trying to help. I'm not likely to try to use that feature again soon, though, so I'm not gonna worry about it any more. Everything else works great.
