Hello everybody!

A long time in the making, it is time for another edition of the SETI giveaway.. as well as the semi-regular, semi-official SETI update. Because it has been so long since we have had a giveaway, (for which I take full blame) let's go with 5 prizes this time!

The winners this time for a free IRM, IRO, or Sub-domain to add to your main account (full package) on FutureQuest, are:

Rokea.com

HosannaChurch.com

Diamond-Back.com

Maryams.net

Trafficg.com

(Please make a note in the comment section of the order form.. letting us know that you were a winner of the SETI prize)

We are currently at sitting at #18 on the list of the Top 200 Small companies. (Top 200? They changed it from the Top 100!) Anyway, you can view the Top 200 teams here:

http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_type_1.html

And the customary links:

Our SETI Team results are here: http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_29694.html

For information on how to join the team, please visit: http://www.futurequest.net/Community/SETI/

Also, how about an informal poll regarding your interest/participation with the SETI project.. is your interest still there? Are the longer times to complete a work unit, or other programs based on the same principle (or anything else) having an overall effect on your interest?

Should we find another way to give away free stuff?. :P

Thank you!

But Paul,

If you throw out all the teams with less than a 100 years in CPU time, we are sitting at Number 10

Gee, I like that number ;)

Anyway it shows the "Determination", the "Stick To Itness", the "Never Ending Doggedness" the absolute "Commitment" that FutureQuest Team members show day in and day out.

All around a "Job Well Done" by all the FutureQuest team members and if anyone ever discovers ET I bet it's the FutureQuest Team.

After all this is "FutureQuest" :)

I really enjoy SETI, and have it running on two of our three computers at home (the laptop, alas, cannot take the constant processing and apparently needs her beauty sleep each night, LOL ;)!)

I've won twice, and get a little kick out of seeing who won "this time." It doesn't bother me that it's a lower priority on the FQ staff's To Do list, in the sense that updates are a little irregular. I look at it more as a fun surprise when it does get posted.

My wins came at a time when I was just learning about subdomains and IRM/IRO usage, and I hope FQ even views bestowing the prize as a piece of my developer education and knowledge . . . I probably would have put off learning about this aspect, without the freebie.

I have this secret (well, not so secret now that I am posting it for the world to see, LOLOLOL . . ) wish for a FQ giveaway - a single winner type prize for one FQbie to travel to Florida, meet the staff, maybe a tour of the facilities (if appropriate security could be met, I understand there are concerns about that.) I don't suppose that's really on level with running a screen saver program :D . . . but maybe it would make a neat promo *someday* :)!

Search for ExtraTerestrial Intelligence.

SETI@Home is a project where everyone can contribute a bit of their computer's time to help perform computations on radio signals, to help us find ET. Follow the links in Paul's message at the start of this thread for more info.

I booted my SETI back up after this latest discussion. I don't know why, but after I'd been doing SETI for a long time, it got to a point where it just monumentally slowed my computer down, and the packets are processing very slowly. I used to finish packets on the order of 30 hours. Now I've got one that's only about 50% done after 156 hours. :(

Anyhow, I booted it up again. Maybe someday I will finish this packet.

So we get entries in the pool by the number of hours we contributed, right? So, if and when this packet ever finishes, I'll have a lot of entries in the pool!

Perhaps a SETI forum should be set up? I don't think discussing it belongs in this forum, as it should be reserved for when actual server news is broken. No disrespect to the SETI initiative, but it just doesn't seem right that it's in this forum, when many site owners come to check this forum for any actual server news.

I'm a fairly new user here at FutureQuest. However, I'd sort of been thinking about joining SETI for a while, and this competition and mainly just group sort of pushed me into it. Anyhow, my interest is still there! So one 'vote' for keeping it. Gotta find them aliens...

My interest is still there. Seti is the original, and even though Berkeley's problems with hackers and their server glitches have been a little disappointing some days, it's still a great project.

I love you guys. Thanks!

Just the little nudge I needed to get a domain name for my design section. 8)
