During the server maintenance window of:
1:00am - 5:00am
on 6/23/01

All servers, except for:
TAZ
PHOENIX

Will be going through a quick reboot in order to upgrade the Linux Kernel...

Downtime should be less than 10 minutes per server...

Totally off topic I know (and I apologize...but....) --Wants one of those fancy *nix boxes that don't need a reboot for upgrades-- ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wouldn't that be the same ones that don't require any security upgrades either? I think I saw someone somewhere that had not had a security upgrade in over a year but didn't need one because of one of those fancy *nix boxes.

And with that I will hush before I'm banned from the forums for:

A) Going off topic

B) Expanding on an inside joke on a public forum

C) Lessening the importance of this thread

D) I dunno....whatever else comes to mind.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled upgrades.

Deb
- DOH!

Thanks, Terra - perfectly scheduled to be on a day when absolutely nobody will be playing on my server since there's a Pilgrimage going on. Excellent work.

I could wait until tomorrow to find out what version of the kernel the upgrade is to, but the anticipation is too much... what version of the kernel are the servers being booted up to?

Same version as is now: Linux 2.2.19

With the exception of updating the SCSI layer in an effort to solve some thorny timing issues that I'm having with the new drives interacting with the older drives...

Can you not just whip the smaller drives out and place them in the dedicated server parts pile 8} :agree: :bounce: :lick: :stardanc:

Ah, but is it a picture of a dedicated server. LOL

Nope, there are different drives selected to service those...

However, I cannot comment much further than that at this time... :$

I wonder if this is the larger picture....

Introduction to HUGO -- June 13th, 2001 (http://www.futurequest.net/About/)
HUGO is the 14th Community Server to go into production at FutureQuest! Equipped with an Intel Pentium-III 850Mhz Processor and 1 Gigabyte of RAM. HUGO was named after his purpose at FutureQuest. The first server to go online in preparation for higher disk space allowances. HUGO is "HUGE", hence the name.

Ummmm - Nope... ;)

HUGO is already at where everyone else is to be... :o

The larger picture touches upon and encompasses all servers... Regrettably, that picture is going to require far more paints and canvas than I have now...

SIX just got snagged by an (seemingly harmless) integrity check on the way back up...

Downtime for SIX will hopefully be less than 30min...

[thinking out aloud]
Just reading between the lines. Could this be an implicit confirmation of the highly secret dedicated servers plan being developed at FutureQuest Area 51
