Hi,

i'm on Escher.......what's Escher?

You can read all about the various Servers and where their names originated from here:
http://www.futurequest.net/About/

But specifically about ESCHER

"ESCHER was named after the popular artist that excelled at putting out complex drawings in such a way that made the impossible appear possible."

Have a Good One,
Bob

Escher was a wonderful artist, there's no doubt about that. Read about his work in the context of self-reference and AI in Douglas Hofstadter's book Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid. An extraordinary book.

Oh, you need a naming scheme!

My naming scheme is currently based on Cthulhu Mythos entities, as written about by H P Lovecraft and a number of other horror writers since. One day I'll get round to writing down all of the machines, but currently I have: dagon the laptop (so named because it's green); azathoth the desktop system and peripheral server (which recently fulfilled its name by going insane); and cthugha the firewall.

Those are all Linux boxes or custom devices (cthugha); Windows boxes don't get good names in my house.

There's a word for it

There's name for it

Does anyone remember the Elder Party for President campaign pack that went around a few years back?

"Cthulhu promises an end to inflation, an end to higher taxes... Cthulhu promises AN END..."

And one of my favorite bumper stickers: "The Elder Party: Why choose the lesser of two evils?"

It's been a while since I played Call of Cthulhu (or ran, rather - I've never actually played it), but it's very much in the blood, so to speak. I'd certainly be interested in any good Mythos sites.

By "V;tM", do you mean Vampire: The Masquerade? I got the rules for that and it looked fascinating. If only I'd had any players...

Very kind.

Incidentally, does anyone remember a comic character called Zenith from 2000AD? One of Grant Morrison's early ones. The universe that was set in owed a certain amount to the Mythos (eg Iok Sotot was one of the first baddies).

yes. i'm in a Camarilla campaign right now, but i think you sound like you'd enjoy even more something like WoD, V;tES or even The Mage:Ascension. i don't know what kind of rules you enjoy for your players, but _as_ a player, i know that The Mage is amazing calculations (in abilities) to do anything, and the Eternal Struggle's plots are far more elaborate and intriguing than even WoD! www.white-wolf.com would have plenty on the above mentioned if you're interested.
