Greetings,

We have a mail service problem. (Not with FQ) We are moving a domain from one host to another. The new host says everything is setup correctly and mail service should be back to normal "soon", but all day today our mail has been bouncing. The error we are receiving is

Sorry, I couldn't find a mail exchanger or IP address. (#5.4.4)

Is this normal during the propagation process, or should I call the "old" host to try to fix the problem. Will this automatically clear up or is there something else that should be done either with the 'old' or 'new' host?

Setting up the forwards as suggested in the other message doesn't seem to help either.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
Lee

Is your account with your previous host still active? If so, there is definately a problem somewhere (DNS specifically). If not, you'll simply have to wait until your domain resolves to it's new location, which is why you should always let your hosting accounts overlap by at least a week whenever possible...

Justin,

Thanks for your response. Yes, the previous account is still active. Any suggestions on what we can check to investigate this further. The new host says it's not them, the old one says the same thing. All I know is that mail was being delivered, now it's bouncing.

Thanks,
Lee

The first thing I'd do is perform a 'host' lookup on the domain name and see if you get an MX in there ('mail handled by ...'). If not, see what IP address comes up for the domain; whichever host owns that IP is the one who has your DNS at the moment, and has no MX record in there...

If that's not it... I'd hound whichever host your MX does map to...
