Hello everybody,

It is official. Like it or not but our small company (Digital Dutch) is a proud new site owner at FutureQuest(http://63.236.215.29/) :)

I'm currently setting up the pop e-mail accounts. I like to receive the e-mail from the so called shell account, because this is a important e-mail address for our company. I was not aware that it can not be used as a standard pop3 address. What is the best solution to use this address?

1. Forward all e-mail to another pop address. It does not look nice but it probably works.

2. Change the account name to a less important one.

Welcome to FQ! I'm sure you will like it here.

Why can't your main account email be used as a standard POP3 account?

If I try to create a POP e-mail account with the

shellaccount@mydomain.com

I get the following error message:

"shellaccount is a reserved mailbox. You cannot create a POP mail account using janderk."

Maybe it already is a POP account and just not listed between the pop accounts. But if so what password would I use to connect?

Hi,

Your shell account is a full POP email account.

It is accessed with your main user name and password, the same that you would use to access your CNC.

You cannot access it if it is forwarded though.[nbsp][nbsp]So make sure forwarding is disabled.

I hope this helps :)

Happy New Year,
Bob

It is in fact a POP account but it is listed separately as it is a bit more 'special' than a standard POP since it is also the catch-all account and the account that shares your account username/pass.

Reference your Activation letter for the specific details of this account where you will notice the same username and pass.... everything should work as you would like it to :)

When an account is setup at FutureQuest, by default your root email address will also serve as your catch all email address. With that in mind anything sent to anything@yourdomain.com will get sent to your root email account, unless another pop account is set up for your domain and that’s where it was sent.

I hope this helps…

When an account is setup at FutureQuest, by default your root email address/catch all email address will be[nbsp][nbsp]yourdomainname@yourdomainname.com/net/org etc Is that something new? That's not what mine is. When I signed up, it prompted me to think of some name, similar to my domain (but not identical) to use as my userID. That is what I have for my main POP account. userID@mydomain.net.

P.S. Uh, you FQ guys and gals need to look into the efficiency a bit more. If you all answer the same help request...well, seems to me that the efficiency could be improved a bit here? :P

Thanks sheila that was my mistake. My comments above have been corrected.

Your username will decide your root catch-all POP email account -[nbsp][nbsp]username@yourdomain.com. You cannot use sales, webmaster, root, admin, or any username that is already taken. However you will be able to set up additional pop email accounts with whatever you would like using the CNC control panel once your account is set up.

If the username you have chosen is already taken, activation of the account will default back to your domain name or something close. If you would like to provide a second or third choice, just in case, you may do so within the comments section provided at the end of the order process.

Well Sheila,

It appears you caught us :)[nbsp][nbsp]Another one of those cold and calculated attempts to mine the Forums with one of those "Great Pre Sales Examples"

You know,
"Look at this, On a Holiday, New Years Day in the evening to boot.[nbsp][nbsp]5, Count Them, 5 different Service Personnel answered this, including the CEO and CTO."[nbsp][nbsp]Wow![nbsp][nbsp]:P

Happy New Year Sheila,

Bob,

Thanks for the quick response, and the alternative solution.

That will work fine.

Hey everyone, I'm new here, too.[nbsp][nbsp](And I'm pretty impressed with what I've seen so far.[nbsp][nbsp]The CNC is really great.)

At any rate, I like to check my mail from telnet with Pine during the day, then when I get home at night I like to POP everything to my home computer.

I've got the POP stuff working fine, and my catch-all is doing what it should.[nbsp][nbsp]But when I telnet in and go to Pine it says that I have no mail.

Does mail get stored somewhere else, so that I can't access it from telnet?[nbsp][nbsp]If so, can I point Pine in the right place to read mail?

(Maybe this has been answered somewhere else, but I can't seem to find it.)

Thanks in advance,

Brandon

Hi Brandon,

Pine unfortunately does not support POP email . It only supports reading email directly from your mail spool directory, which does not work with our[nbsp][nbsp]dual-layered mail system (Qmail/vmail). Pine is on the server, but since you do[nbsp][nbsp]not have an @FutureQuest.net email address it can't be used... You will need to use a POP email client instead.

What many do is set one of their email clients (home or work) to leave the mail on the server, allowing it to be downloaded from the second location at a later time.

I hope this helps :)

Have a Good One,
Bob

- To Pop or Not To Pop, that IS the question :P-

Mind if I make a comment?

If you have one, default 'shell' account which acts as a catch-all.. I would never give that address out to anyone or use that name for sending email anywhere but to futurequest.
