I am currently trying to set us up with a way of processing
orders online. FQ has set up the secure server and I have
looked at several online payment options. FQ uses Kagi and
it looked user friendly so I was considering using them. All
we need is an online ordering form. I am not ready to tackle
an entire shopping cart.

My problem is that my vendor has already been signed up
with Authorize.net for about a year and even though she
is processing orders only offline, she is using them as her
merchant account. She claims they are too expensive. I
can't for the life of me figure out how to use their system
for online ordering or if I want to.

I am looking for suggestions on some very basic questions
about setting up online ordering for her. Does anyone else
have experience wih either Kagi or Authorize.net that would
recommend them or not, or other suggestions for someone
who would provide a merchant account with online ordering?

If your client feels that Authorize.Net is too expensive, then a solution such as Kagi will simply cost more. Kagi is considered a transaction broker, so to speak, since they hold the merchant account. It sounds like your client has her own merchant account so I would accomodate this.

If you are developing a simple order form and just want to post the CC transaction to Authorize.net, you can do this. Documentation for doing this is on the Anet site, but I believe you may now need a merchant account or a reseller's account to do so. You may want to have your client help you obtain these documents.

Another "no effort, no sweat" option is to consider the Merchant Order drop-in for FutureQuest accounts. See http://www.merchantquest.net for more info. The Merchant Order product requires Signio' Payflo Pro (a competitor to Anet) for payment processing and your own Thawte or Verisign server cert.

Thanks for the reply,

I am happy enough to work with what she already has,
the authorize.net account, but I had difficulty figuring
out how to set this up. All I want to do is set up an
online ordering form for her site. I think my client is
a bit confused as to what she wants otherwise and
I am not the person to advise her in this area. I am
just a web designer. It sounds even more complicated
than I thought. :)

This might sound dumb but now I'm under the impression
that I would need a merchant account and reseller's
account to set this up for her, even though I am not
the vendor? This is what I don't get.

I'll check into the merchant order drop-in. Thanks again.
