After some advice here 'Questies http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
I manage spinal-research.org and in June they are holding a major fundraising event which will receive national TV coverage. I'd like to set up a page where people can make donations by ccard. How do I go about this ?
They already have a merchant account.

Since there does not seem to be a need for a shopping cart or anything a simple form will work.
Request the info needed to be able to process the card via a mailform and you'd be all set.
Secure server would be available by that time so you could either get your own cert or use the FQuest community SSL server, place the page on it for the donation to be given and that's all you'll need http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

From what I understand, you are saying they already have a merchants account. I don't know what type of account this is... but let's assume they need only gain the Credit Card Number and name/address to be able to make a charge to the card.
If the above is true then what you would need to do is simple http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif Just like if you put a mail form on your site saying "Tell me your name and email" they fill in the info and click submit..this then emails you a message with their name and email address in it.
You would need the same thing for your donations page... a mail form that says "Tell me your name, address, and credit card info" they would fill in the form and click submit then you would receive an email with that info and take the info to where/whatever you need to do with it with the merchants account.
The main diff is that your form page will be on the secure server... and the info would be encrypted during transit. You may want to additionally add some encryption methods to your email so that when it travels from the server to you it also safe. Things like the PGPkeys are commonly used for this. You will want to do a search on these forums for Port forwarding for some further info in that area.

This is exactly what I need to do with a couple of non-profit sites I am starting to maintain. Fill out a form that submits an email with the cc number. I really like this solution for a low-volume site.
I understand the part about needing a page on a secure server. That will encrypt the transmission from the user's browser to the server. I'm happy to pay $50 to share FQ's certificate -- sounds like a bargain to me. But how do you encrypt the second path, from the server to you? Formmail 1.9 isn't going to cut it, is it?
You may want to check out my PGP Form Mail script. It is based on Matt Wright's Form Mail script (but it had the security errors fixed long before the FormMail script implemented fixes.)
You can find it at:
http://rsmarketing.com/pgp
And setup instructions for PGP on FQ servers can be found at:
http://rsmarketing.com/pgp/fq/fqsetup.html
You will also want to search the forms here for additional tips and feedback from others who have setup pgp.

Holy cow, I can't believe it. When I was mulling this idea over a couple of days ago, I was thinking, "Well, this would be a fiendishly simple way to do things! Ah well, too bad Form Mail isn't encrypted."
And then Rich posts:
<angelic music>You may want to check out my PGP Form Mail script...</angelic music>
Thank you so much Rich! That is just completely awesome. My hat is off to you.
