I would like to know if anyone has any experience with accepting checks by fax, phone and email..I have seen a wide range of prices for the software and I'm not sure what the difference is. One is called "Checkman" that sells for $29.95 http://www.nelpub.com/checkman/index.html

I don't know though.. look at the counter..
"00029" when I was there. Is this a rip or legitimate?

Basically I would like someone that has used a similar avenue to tell me the pros and cons.

re: checks by fax

I can't advise you on this particular firm, but the draft check technology is sound, albeit not very viable. Unless you are getting a large demand for accepting checks (and few sites do), you're probably better off getting a merchant credit card account that also allows you to accept checks.

Just be careful who you deal with. While there are many, many reputable firms there are also a LOT of rip-offs among the "merchant account application" and "check acceptance" companies.

I see nothing wrong with the idea itself, but this particular program just seems odd - and the counter said 28 when I got there... And I agree with Rich - unless you have a lot of ppl asking about this, I'd stick with credit card or checks by US mail personally.

I found this to be a good short&sweet article on the issue of 'getting paid' http://livekey.com/promote/promotion/payments.html?15

As far as checks I agree with Jim in the article where he states
The vast majority of people will want to order with their credit card using your secure online order form. However, not everybody will. The more payment methods you offer, the less barriers will be between you and your customer's money.

FutureQuest will begin accepting on-line checks once the Secure server is in place...

Thanks for the replies.. I'm gonna do a little more research into this. It seems on the surface, a quick and painless way to seperate people from their money. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I think there are still alot of people "uneasy" giving out their credit card #'s over the net.

At least it would make a nice compliment to the payment options made available.

Thanks

Try ValidCheck.com

They're not that pretty, but they have some check validation (so you're less likely to get a bounced check or be defrauded) and seem OK.

It seems like a better idea to go with a company like that that can verify stuff for you.. Safer in the long run.

They cost $40 to start, with several free validation services and a few more that are inexpensive...

Take a look at em, see what you think. I'm thinking of going with them for taking checks, and possibly iBill or something for credit cards.

Let me know what you think of them.
