I notice in my activation letter that there is a listing for one MySQL database referenced by xdomain.[nbsp][nbsp]Is this just a single database, or is this database divisible into smaller independent ones?

This has now become reality...

More details will be made available soon on how it affects site owners prior to the MySQL DB upgrades with existing access...

I had read those posts previously and wasn't really sure if that was the same question I was asking.[nbsp][nbsp]Apparently it was, and I apologize for having to dredge up an old topic.[nbsp][nbsp]But thanks for the response anyway!!![nbsp][nbsp]Much appreciated, like all the FQ service :P

I find that Gold and Platinum package include 6 MySQL databases now. However, when I tried to use database,
xdomain_2 didn't work. Only xdomain worked. Will it[nbsp][nbsp]be available to use[nbsp][nbsp]6 MySQL databases in the near future?
Thanks.

Since this is a new feature, all new accounts (Gold/Platinum) will by default receive the six databases. For existing accounts, you can request that the other five be created for you by sending an email to Support@FutureQuest.net :)

Thank you, Justin! E-Mail is in.
Just curious. I joined this forum and FutureQuest in Dec. 1998, but UBB shows I am a New Member. Perhaps I only posted a few messages here.

You guys have to love database questions from me now, so here goes:

Is more better when referring to databases?[nbsp][nbsp]And what can you now do with 6, that couldn't be done with one?

One main benefit off the top of my head would be to have one program installed numerous times on a site (easily)

There is no real benefit, other than the fact that you can keep things separated. Some canned scripts, for example, give you no control over what you name the tables - installing more than one of these scripts (whether they be two copies of the same program or two different programs) within a single database could cause name conflicts - but having multiple databases give you the ability to keep them separate, avoiding this potential possibility :)

Think of it like this - before, you had one folder in which you and/or your programs could create files. You had to be sure none of the files were going to end up with the same name. Now you have six folders to work in, giving the ability to keep the programs in different working directories.

Hope the analogy makes sense :)
