View Full Version : DB in disk space, bandwidth, and other ?s

1) OK, I know that my database counts toward my allotted disk space. The question is, does that show in the CNC's display of my disk usage? If so, where? (I don't see it.) And if not, how can I find out how much space it's using?
2) Ran across an old post saying "there will be (within the next 2 or 3 months) process accounting software where, from your CNC, you will be able to see the average CPU usage of your domain." (I think this was July, but I forgot to note when I copied the quote.) Is that feature there now, or still in the works, or given up on? Not a huge deal, but it would be interesting.
3) Also noticed mention in old posts of a High Capacity deal, somewhere in between Platinum and a Dedicated Server... is that still in the works and/or in the near future?
4) Is the bandwidth as listed in httpAnalyze very accurate? In other words, is what you see as our bandwidth the same as what I see there? (I'm curious because, according to this, our bandwidth is *quite* increased from a couple of weeks ago at our old server (which used the same stats program), though our hits are down a bit and nothing has really been added.)
5) How do I get to be registered as a Site Owner in here?
Thanks! :)

1) At this time the mySQL disk usage does not appear in the CNC disk space report. We are hoping to have this added within the next few months...
2 & 3) TeRRa can better answer these...
4) The bandwidth usage shown in http-Analyze is relatively accurate for web requests. What we see comes from the raw logs, and is calculated pretty much the same way.
5) - You're all set :)

1) Is there any other way to find out what its disk space is? Some command in telnet perhaps?
5) Yay! :)
Thanks!

1) Not as of yet, I wish that MySQL had an internal command to reveal this information on a Database or Table level...[nbsp][nbsp]When I brought the new DAS::MySQL system online, it pretty much nuked the Database disk space check routines...[nbsp][nbsp]It's on my ToDo list, but not sure when that will be completed yet...
2) I did feasability studies, and the extra overhead it placed on the server, overshadowed the benefits gained...[nbsp][nbsp]I decided to attack the problem from a different angle by writing the FQguardian project to watch over the servers instead of going full core process accounting...[nbsp][nbsp]Eventually the FQguardian will become much finer grained, but I doubt the results will be publically released...
3) HC systems are still being worked on, but our main focus right now is finishing the 5th Gen design for the next community server...[nbsp][nbsp]I refuse to bring any HC systems online based on the Linux 2.2.x kernel series due to stability issues...[nbsp][nbsp]When the Linux core becomes rock-solid once again, I will revisit the HC systems and design the new core around it...

1) OK, I'm sorry to keep bugging, but... it's a tad disturbing that we have no way to know how much space it takes up, since it does count against our total. Ours is in use for our message board (wwwthreads), and we'd at least like to have some idea of the size, to help us determine how often we should delete old messages and stuff. If it's not too large, we'd like to keep them around as long as possible, but if it's really huge, we could expire them sooner. Any chance you could at least tell us how big it is at the moment, and then we can sort of guess for ourselves from then on until there's a way to check it? (We've never worked with a db before, and we honestly have no clue what kind of sixe we could be talking... 1M, 50M... no idea. So just to know what it is right now would be of very good use.)
Thanks again! We appreciate the help we've gotten thus far! :)

Right now, we are not counting DB size against the package allocations (yet)...
When we do bring this to the forefront, we will provide a grace period to where you can bring your disk usage inline...
For the record, your DB space is:
1.640625 Mb

Thank you! We appreciate the info. (And believe me, I understand about To Do lists - they just keep growing and growing and growing...)

Clarification request: How did you calculate that if you said it's not really that possible above?[nbsp][nbsp]*L*

The space used by each database is easy to calculate manually - you simply add up the space used in that particular DB's data directory. The problem comes in when trying to automate this - you run into permission problems for one, plus now all new mySQL databases go on a different machine than the one you are hosted on. This makes it difficult for any automated script (like the Disk Space module of the CNC) to go in and read the directory size, especially now that some are on the same server while others are not...
Hope this helps clarify :)
