View Full Version : Idiot's Guide to PHP....
As a complete beginner, I am looking for a VERY simple tutorial for complete PHP beginners. For that matter, cgi, miva, etc. tutorials would be great also. I have seen some tutorials that say they are for beginners but I need tutorials for COMPLETE idiot beginners. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif(ummm....that would be me)
Any recommendations from all you skilled webbies?

One place that has a lot of great tutorials is http://www.devshed.com . That's where I learned a lot of the PHP commands to interface with MySQL - there is also a beginner's php tutorial (although it's a little short).
Honestly, as for PHP, I guess it's just too new, as there really isn't much out there yet - but once you learn it, it's great!
The php manual assumes prior programming experience - and I think learning Perl would be something to do first, then get into php, as the two are quite similar (both based on C). There are differences, but once you learn the basic syntax and just good overall programming skills, picking up on a new language is easy - I didn't know what Perl, PHP, or C/C++ was until a couple short months ago http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
A couple links to check out about CGI programming:
http://hoohoo.ncsa.uiuc.edu/cgi/overview.html
http://www.bignosebird.com/
The second one has a lot of good tutorials on SSI, CGI/Perl, and general HTML. It is designed for beginners.
Hope this helps http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I had not seen these tutorials so I will check them out. I REALLY want to learn all these things even though I am getting a late start at it. Learning is good for you, ya know? http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
Have a nice day!
