View Full Version : building to building network?
A friend asked if there was a way to network his home to his office.[nbsp][nbsp]They are three blocks apart and do not have a clear line of sight.[nbsp][nbsp]He needs to have around a 1 Mbit/sec connection.[nbsp][nbsp]Since he doesn't have a clear line of sight, is there any alternative to the phone company?
Hmmm... There are off-premise extensions of the same phoneline at all three locations.[nbsp][nbsp]I wonder if you could use phone-line network adaptors like http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/prodlist.jsp?tab=solution&pathtype=purchase&sol_id=1000005&family-=411&cat=20&solcat=Home+and+Home+Office ?
How do these work?[nbsp][nbsp]Do they need their own "phoneline" or can they work over an existing active phone line?[nbsp][nbsp]What happens with the dial tone, etc?

Only things I can come up with:
DSL or cable modem at both locations using a VPN.
Wireless.
Pay the phone company for a dedicated pair between the sites.[nbsp][nbsp]The phone company can tell you how many feet the run would be.[nbsp][nbsp]Unfortunately, the CO could be a mile away.[nbsp][nbsp]You can then get something from www.tutsys.com (http://www.tutsys.com) that might work.[nbsp][nbsp]Rather expensive though.
Sneak out in the middle of the night and bury some fiber.
