I am so proud, I did it myself :D :D :P![nbsp][nbsp]And it *only* took me 2 weeks and one reformat . . . and I only have 2 cards leftover from the tower surgery, hmmmmm (just kidding, they were extra or are waiting for new machine.)
Okay, so it's not as cool as Ethernet would have been, and there's no hub or anything . . . but it works and we can share dialin access (the only kind here in the middle of the North Pacific) and share files, and we can all print to all the printers - I'm a happy camper.[nbsp][nbsp]I was also happy with the price.[nbsp][nbsp]Our next home will be one we build, and I will definately prewire it for LAN access.
I got this:[nbsp][nbsp]Netgear Phoneline Networking (http://www.netgear.com/categories.asp?xrp=9&yrp=21)
My laptop has the external USB adapter, and the existing desktop has the PCI card - we're picking up another one of those for the new desktop.
Just one more machine to link up, as soon as the cutie UPS driver shows up with it. (A safe statement, since I think all here would agree anyone bearing a new machine, is a cutie . . . LOL!)
Since this is really just a show-and-tell thread, I'll tell about the new machine too ;) ![nbsp][nbsp]My DH's new machine is:
Micron - 1.7 gig P4, 256 MB RAM, 60 gig HD, 16x48xvar. CD-ROM/DVD, 12x10x32x CDRW, Win2K Pro and Office2K Pro, 56.6 modem (this will be the new gateway, right now my laptop is which is hardly ideal.), 256 Zip drive, 3.5 floppy drive (take that, iMac), 64 MB video w/ TV out, 19 inch Monitor, and a partridge in a pear tree.
Replaces a 1995 era Zeos (Micron bought 'em) Pentium 1 100 mHz, 1.2 gig hard drive (although we added a 2nd drive, 3.2), came with 24 MB of RAM that we upped it to 64 at some point, 33.6 modem (which is why my laptop is the net gateway on the LAN, LOL), crappy sound and video cards.[nbsp][nbsp]I think it had 2 MB of video RAM![nbsp][nbsp]At least, it does have a brand new 17" Monitor, since the original one bit the dust a month ago.
Oh, and it comes with one free RW CD and one free Zip disc (Whoo-hoo! LOL)[nbsp][nbsp]The new setup is his graduation present, for completing PA school a year ago.[nbsp][nbsp]He better be happy with this for awhile!!
Jon (my DH) would like to know if anyone has recommendations for head to head type fighter pilot sim games, that run well over slower net connection - ie, where perhaps the only info being shared between players is relative position and such, and the individual's machine generates the rest of the visuals.
