I was done with Seagate long ago when quality took a major backseat to profits...[nbsp][nbsp]Same for the pathetic workmanship of the Western Digital drives, e.g. little silver strip band providing vacuum seal until scraped on installation...

There are 3 High Quality drive manufacturers out there right now:
1) Quantum (SCSI)
2) Maxtor (EIDE)
(the two above are merging their technologies)[nbsp][nbsp]:)
3) IBM (SCSI and EIDE)

I believe IBM has announced (maybe even has out... actually, is >ANYONE< but IBM making drive heads? IBM has so many patents on all aspects of hard drives (including inventing them...) that I'm under the impression it makes money on just about every drive sold) a 15,000 RPM drive as well.

Just found it. http://www.storage.ibm.com/press/hdd/20010130.htm

3.4 ms seek. 52.8 meg/sec sustained transfer. To put it another way, that's 105.6 times faster than the RAM on a Commodore 64. :)

And yet, I have a WD and a IBM drive that look identical. And the silver strip is not used on the newer drives.

I do have two Quantum 10k II that are killer in speed. Boy do they run hot!!. :)[nbsp][nbsp]
