Does anyone happen to know what the following error represents:

This DHCP client couldn't renew an IP address lease.[nbsp][nbsp]Do you want to see future DHCP messages?
I just started receiving the error on my old Win 95 computer yesterday, and it seems to happen whenever network use is inactive for an hour or more.[nbsp][nbsp]The peculiar, and likely completely coincidental, thing is that we just got two "new" computers donated to the school today.[nbsp][nbsp]They are both Win 95 and have a very similar error message that pops up every few minutes (they aren't yet networked together):

This DHCP client was unable to obtain an IP network address from a DHCP server.[nbsp][nbsp]Do you want to see future DHCP messages?
As far as I can tell, the errors do not effect anything -- the network at home continues to function fine -- but they keep popping up like the energizer bunny...

I found some mentions of the error, but nothing that sounds applicable:

This sounds a bit more relevant:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q157/1/39.ASP

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, read this page; http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/cs/dhcp/ It appears the DHCP client of Windows 95/98 is a bit buggy (surprise, surprise ;)[nbsp][nbsp]).
If the DHCP lease isn't renewed, it may expire and the DHCP may give out the IP address to another computer which will result in an address conflict.

Thanks, Arthur.[nbsp][nbsp]Windows buggy?[nbsp][nbsp]Nah, couldn't be![nbsp][nbsp]:)[nbsp][nbsp]I went through the installation process, so we'll see if that silences the errors...[nbsp][nbsp]The confirmation shows a different date than the instructions claim I should see, but the filesize is right, so who knows.

Does anyone see anything odd about the instructions on the DHCP update page?

There are two files that need to be downloaded, MSDUN13.EXE and VDHCPUPD.EXE....

Click on W95WS2SETUP.EXE ...

Click on MSDUN13.EXE ...

Click on VDHCPUPD.EXE ... I believe W95WS2SETUP.EXE is the Winsock installation, of which VDHCPUPD.EXE updates, yet the instructions never specify what to do with W95WS2SETUP.EXE...[nbsp][nbsp]That might be why I get the wrong confirmation date...

After roughly 6 hours, no such error messages on the home computer, so that appears to have fixed the problem.[nbsp][nbsp]Haven't tried it on the donated computers yet...
