View Full Version : Mac Users, I'm in Dire Need Of Some Feedback...

I've just upgraded my forum software, and users with a Mac/Netscape setup are reporting that it can take up to 3 minutes to load a single page.
PC/Netscape users experience some slowness, but it is NOTHING like what these Mac users are reporting.
I don't have access to a Mac, if you could visit my forums (http://forums.bronx-bombers.com/), and try browsing with Netscape and/or IE, and let me know if there is a difference between Netscape & IE in terms of slowness - I want to figure out if it's a Netscape Issue, a Mac Issue, or a combination of the two.
Thanks a ton!!!

Hi, Jim
I checked out your BB and it looks great! However, I did have the problem of slow-loading pages in Communicator 4.76. The main page loaded quickly, but any page with a number of messages presented a problem. IE 5.5b1 works just fine, as does Netscape 6.01. I'm running a Mac G3/500 with 500 megs ram, OS 9.1 and a cable connection.
Let me know if I can be of any further assistance,
JB (MinorMan)
Jim,
I can report much the same. No real problems in IE5.0, but big problems in Netscape 4.61. It even hung my computer the first time.
System 8.6, with plenty of RAM and a cable connection.
Joe.

Thank you both very much for your input!![nbsp][nbsp]:)
It seems this is a problem with versions prior to Netscape 6.0.[nbsp][nbsp]I may have to download that now, too :sigh:
MinorMan, was your experience that NS6.0 ran as well as, better than, or worse than IE5.5?
At any rate, thank you both - your input is invaluable, and it is very appreciated!

PS:[nbsp][nbsp]More Mac Guinea pigs are definitly welcome to give it a shot ;)[nbsp]

I downloaded NS6.0, and it seems to be just as good as IE5.5 - I wonder what changed in NS6 that makes it so much better; in other words, what was causing NS4.x to be slow?[nbsp][nbsp]We may never know...

Hi, Jim - I just logged on to your board to see if you wanted to try some realtime troubleshooting, but I guess you've hit the sack. Anyway, I found NS 6.01 handled your forum pages as well, if not better, than IE 5.5b1. This is one of the few things I've seen NS 6 do better in any of the comparisons I've run. I do know that it is supposedly much better than 4.x as far as dealing with CSS, and I can vouch for that. But I didn't see anything too heavy as far as that's concerned in your html.
Drop me an email if you would like to dig deeper. I'm registered as MinorMan at your board, too. Just use the email I used there.
Cheers,

Thanks, MinorMan! :)
Unfortunatly, I didn't hit the sack, though I *should* have - I have to be at work in 6 hours...
Anyway, I appreciate your offer - I finally attributed the Netscape issues to the table that the content was in.[nbsp][nbsp]I've eliminated them now, and it loads much faster - almost like normal - with Netscape 4.x on Windows.[nbsp][nbsp]If you get a chance, drop by again and let me know what you think.
Thanks again!
