URGENT! Please help me.....

I was going out on a walk so I put my PC on sleep mode (which I can do with my keyboard by pressing Fn + Sleep). I did not turn the power to the monitor off. When I came back 1 1/2 hour later, I pressed Fn + Wake.

Everything is tinted read! Blue looks purple, black looks like a pinkish brown, etc.

I can't take staring at the monitor right now.

I've tried the following:
-I've restarted the computer and got the same thing.
-I've shut down and then restarted.
-Put it on sleep mode on and off again.
-Checked the cables from my monitor to the video card
-Turned my monitor on and off
-Check the RGB settings on the monitor itself (they are at their perfect defaults)

Help! What could have caused this?

The last thing I need right now is having to junk this 19" beauty and paying for a new one.

I'm starting to gnash my teeth....

Does you monitor have a degaussing mode? If so try that.

I hope this helps..

EDIT: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for responding...

Degaussing? Is it the demagnetizing thingy?

If so I just did it. The monitor's picture shakes, etc. ???

I still have the same effect...

I looked up degaussing on Dictionary.com and got "To neutralize the magnetic field of (a ship, for example)."

I did degauss my monitor, but I'm still in the same hole.

Please some one? Any one out there?

1) You can "check the cables" to make sure they're attached right, but unless you have another, alternative cable to test, you don't know if a cable has gone bad. That can happen. Try shaking the monitor cable while you're looking at the screen. If the image changes at all, it's probably the cable. :)

2) While looking at the monitor, slap the side of the thing. NOT TOO HARD... if you strike it and the monitor flies out the window and crashes through the building next door, that would be a hint that A) you hit it too hard, and B) your given name is Kal-EL... Anyhow, if the picture changes, the monitor has a loose connection or two, and probably needs work (or replacement).

3) Check the web site for the monitor maker, looking for news on similar problems, and/or check http://www.deja.com for similar news (search for your monitor, AND just for "sleep mode red screen" or the like). Someone else may have gone through all this already.

It's also possible that your monitor picked that moment to die, and it's just coincidence. :(

Hey, here's one:

4) The video card settings went slightly berzerk for some reason: I know my ATI card has, under the Advanced button, a series of tabs for special settings, including one where I can adjust red, green, and blue levels individually: check to see if you have those and if they're all "even" (set to the default level) (Screen properties, Settings tab, Advanced button, Color, is where it is for the ATIs)

I have an ATI All In Wonder Pro vid card. I'm going to go check the advanced settings....

1. Jiggling cables don't help. Nor does de/re attaching.
2. LOL! Whacking my monitor did no good. My brother-in-law enjoyed it though.
3. No info at Deja with two searches. Will search more soon.
4. Found it, but has no color options.

Thank you! Thank you!!

You've had one of your monitors color 'guns' fail.

You've had one of your monitors color 'guns' fail.:( Great. We just moved into a new house, so I guess after some calls and more extended research and troubleshooting I'm gonna get a substantially smaller and cheaper Walmart monitor.

What do monitors and Bic lighters have in common? Make me laugh right now. What?

I guarantee this advice will not help in any way or make you feel remotely better, but...[nbsp][nbsp]I've grown very distrustful of sleep, standby, or whatever you want to call it.[nbsp][nbsp]Pretty much every computer/monitor combo I've been around has experienced a greatly increased likelihood of crashes and monitor problems as a result.[nbsp][nbsp]:([nbsp][nbsp]I'll take a 7 minute delay on a blank screensaver any day.

Dan

edit:[nbsp][nbsp]That applies to system and monitor sleep modes.

I must confess this was the second time I ever used standby, and that was only because it was conveniently put on my new keyboard.

Why can't they make keyboards without 60 extra buttons and paid advertisements for the likes of MSN, Yahoo, eBay, and online banking?

I very seriously doubt one of the guns has gone out, but some control circuitry, wiring/cabling, or something else is probably faulty. Most likley it is in the VGA connector (loose solder connection) or the cable itself, but it could be anything.

First thing I'd do is try a different monitor on that machine *or* try the monitor on a different machine; this will rule out whether it's the video card or the monitor.

I haven't had a problem with sleep/standby on any of my machines, except this laptop... once it enters standby it won't come back out, Windows just locks up. I do however just LOVE hibernate. I now refuse to shut down/restart, as hibernating is so much quicker (especially useful on a dual-boot laptop; now if only Linux had a hibernate mode...)

PS -- the fact that it happened when coming out of sleep mode is most likely coincidence - however, it does indicate that the problem might be in the monitor's circuitry though, as powering up is the most likely time for something inside the monitor to fail (sleep effectively powers off most of the monitor).

Update: It was a couple months within warranty! I sent my monitor out to California where they (Sceptre) will either fix it or replace it. I cost me $150 to pack and ship it (but not bad considering I don't have to buy a new 19"er). Mean while I bought a horrid "SamTron Brand" $150 17" at BestBuy which I will return within 14 days and pay a 15% restocking fee (sort of like paying rent). They actually told me to do that so here I am looking at a monitor that is so glossy I can use it as a mirror eheheheheh.

Major THANK YOU to all who helped me.
