View Full Version : How do I get rid of the ICQ help box?

About a month ago, we had to download and reinstall ICQ, because *someone* changed the password and promptly dissociated from what the new password was, and we couldn't get back in. So now we have a new ICQ with a new number and all is well as it ever is with ICQ, EXCEPT for that annoying pop-up "help/announcment" box that comes up every time we start ICQ. We hoped it would go away with time (like once we got passed some "newbie" time frame), but no luck yet. Is there somewhere we haven't found where we can change the setting on that?

Just wondering, nothing urgent -- we've been living with it for weeks already . . .

Click the ICQ button, and go to 'preferences'. Find the tab that says 'connection', towards the bottom of that, check the box that says "Don't show ICQ announcements dialog", and it should get rid of that stupid little splash screen.

Hmm . .. thought we had looked there, but apparently didn't see it before. Thanks for the tip!

For ICQ 2000 Users: (like me)
You have to check
ICQ<Preferences<Miscellanelous<Show ICQ announcements
