Actually, it came a couple of days ago. I'm quite happy with it overall, since it's free and now I can check my pages on a PC.

It came with Win98, a 4G hard drive, 32MB RAM (needs more, I think), a 56K modem, 2 (non-compliant) USB ports, 1 free PCI slot and one free drive slot.

Quicken Basic is on there, but they didn't include a lot of extra software.

It's a 333mhz AMD chip, but it doesn't feel like it. My 233 mhz iMac at 28.8 is better and faster at Internet browsing than the Compaq Presario (2285V) machine. The disk thrashes a whole lot, especially at startup, and just about everything is seems sluggish.

On the other hand, it's free :) and it does what I ask it to do, most of the time... tried to install a trial version of Visual Interdev 6 and got a multitude of programs not responding or crashing during the installation. I turned off as much of active desktop as I could as soon as I got the durn thing.. that sped it up some.

I downloaded FreeMem from one of FQ's own and it confirmed my suspicions... the thing needs RAM. With no applications open except the Free-PC ad banner thing, I have about 2.5 MB available. If I connect to the Internet or run applications, that goes down to about .008MB ram available :(

I'll withhold any comments about the speed of a 233Mhz iMac vs. a 333mhz Compaq with AMD until I can get more RAM into the machine... tis a mistake shipping it with less than 64, that I can see now.

Ok, so, tell me.. what sort of cool freeware/shareware applications can a web person like me download onto my new PC?[nbsp]
