Now that's cool! ;)
I never quite thought of doing something like that.. but I'm sure it's effective.. just don't show my kids![nbsp][nbsp]The last thing we need is them trying new experiments with the equipment :þ

[nbsp][nbsp]Gee mommy the oil and water looked the same.. we didn't think it would make a difference.

COOL!?!? Are you sure thats cool!?!? :(
I'm sure it works and all, but just the thought having parts sitting in that mineral oil stuff makes me shiver!
Hmmm.... Maybe Jacob Stetser over here could be one of the first ones to try, I mean with his Free-PC and all. *evil grin*

LOL! Yeah Jacob![nbsp][nbsp]hmmm wouldya couldya pulleessee? hehe
That guy is crazy.[nbsp][nbsp]I suppose it works fine.[nbsp][nbsp]Wonder what led him to choose mineral oil?
By not leaving the cover on his computer, he probably made it run hotter since they're designed to have air flowing through.

Heh! I see my reputation precedes me!
I just looked in my Free-PC contract... "Thou shalt not, under any circumstances, submerge any part, portion or parcel of thy computer in anything but the holiest of holy, the baptism of the church of Windows."
I think he chose mineral water because of its nonconductivity, and he appears to be an engineer of sorts (also, I think he WORKs at a mineral oil manufacturer?)...
However, I'd be quaking in my boots as I poured in the liquid, and I think there are too many possibilities of impurities getting into the oil, especially with his open-case setup.
Sorry :)

So that's why they asked that question![nbsp][nbsp]:)

Actually, the guy works at a drug store (Meijer is a chain of drugstores in Michigan and other states too I'm sure).
Obviously his motherboard/processor was expendable ... I sure wouldn't do that!
Note he's using a Celeron chip, which apparently is a GREAT chip for overclocking ...
This guy has a new twist on what's actually a very old idea. Twenty years ago, when I started in the programming world, we did it slightly different. You just lock the computer AND the programmers in a room and turn the AC to -40 C. (Well, it felt that cold!) :)

I couldn't get to the url, maybe the page is no longer around. I do have a celeron chip though and it overclocks very well. 300A chip I bought months ago for $65 does 464 mhz at the standard voltage no problem, its great.
