Hey Lea!

no clue about the tech question, but when you find out, we want to know too!!! (considering building from scratch, too, maybe) http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

hope things work out for you!

Did you try to run the bios set-up to 'find' the HDD. Most of them have a setting for "Auto Detect Hard Drive"?

Re: the floppy, ever since I installed Win98, I have not had a floppy, (changed the floppy drive and cables twice), reinstalled the drivers several times, still I get floppy drive write errors.

I figure it is a motherboard/driver/Win98 incompatability problem. To hell with it, no floppy.

hey Lea, you got a manual with that motherboard? IF ya do, get it out and look for a section on Hardware Installation and check for IDE primary channel ..

it almost sounds like what my ex did to my computer, swearing he should install the new cdr on my unit and caused a conflict with master/slave. He spent three hours getting nowhere and I got it working in 30 minutes.. with Terra's help!

I thought I was gonna die when I couldn't get my puter to boot up! GOOD thing Terra was so cool about helping! .... "RTFM" was the bottom line. I also learned that my IDE connectors had to be a certain length and no more or things would be messed up, like the unrecognized floppy and unrecognized hard drive ... not being able to boot up. (I felt so locked out!)

THIS was also the day, Terra perscribed PROZAC for me! *LOL* I survived it, even without that added recommendation! *whew*

Ex's need to stay away.. far away from the most precious things in life! *wonder if they got a manual on that? *giggle*

DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like um ok at that point I was a bit sore and tired and I had the cables connected backwards!
That was the problem - DUH DUH DUH!!!!!!

heheh I am iup and runing now - mostly - I got a new hdd :) 8.4 gigs for $99 - so I grabbed it -

I am still waiting on the cpu fan and heatsink - which I reaaaally need cuz the wimpy fan that I pulled from my old system is not doing tha job![nbsp][nbsp]that shoud be in any day now.

The system is really running sweet, but until I get the new fan and stuff I can't really let it rip withou over heatingthe cpu :/
After purchasing he new hdd - my new system cost me just over $300 :) What fun!! After I'm done tweaking stuff I'm going to reassmble the old machine and sell it.[nbsp][nbsp]It just needs more RAM (I transfered that to the new machine)

I was just rereading ...
[quote]the floppy, ever since I installed Win98, I have not had a floppy, (changed the floppy drive and cables twice), reinstalled the drivers several times, still I get floppy drive write errors.[quote]

weird - what I just had to do is totally wipe my hdd and start fresh over - betweenthe move to the new mb and stuff, and having to reinstall windows -and the tranfer of stuff to the new hdd - the drivers and stuff were just so messed and I was getting all sorts of little minscule problems (mostly with power management and the modem and some software oh yes the device conflicts ... well it all just sucked) I just said screwit and opted for a clean install - the new machine is running really sweet now - cept the onboard parallel port I still cant get that to work no mater what settings its on its really annoying and its not the paralel devices (printer, scanner, zip) I installed a second paralel port via an isa slot and that works with all of em -go figure.[nbsp][nbsp]

Have you tried updating your bios? Thats the only other thing I can think of. then again heck you been without a floppyt his long -why bother?[nbsp][nbsp]

I did download a software bios update a while back from somewhere in central China. Been wary of doing that. I could probably really screw up the 'puter.

I am running win95 since I lost my HDD about two weeks ago. The floppy works, in fact the whole setup is running extremely well. Faster than win98. I'll leave win95 on until the next crash :D
