Outlook Express question

I've been using Outlook express for awhile now and must have hit something in a flurry of clicks around the desktop. Anyway on the message preview area when I had a attachment before it showed it as a paper clip in the upper right of the preview and you could click it to open the attachment, well now its not there any more for files with a attachment. I can get to it if I open the full message but for things like the NEW-LIST announcments it used to have a listing of all the attachments instead of now I have to open it and theres files all oven making no sense.
I'm sure its something simple or stupid that I'm missing but I seem to be passing over it in checking the options.
any help would be greatly appreciated,
