Hi,

When I registered a domain name with NSI (Network Solutions), they put themselves as Technical contacts automatically without an option, now that I am thinking of transfering my domain registrar from NSI to dotster, will there be any problem? Will NSI create any trouble to prolong the process?

Does anyone have any experience in this?

Thanks

Not as long as it is the TECHNICAL contact and not the ADMINISTRATIVE contact.

The Technical contact should list the person responsible for managing the listed (DNS) nameservers.

It is the Administrative contact that controls the domain and that will be contacted during a registrar transfer. So, you want to make that this entry correctly lists yourself and an accurate e-mail address before beginning the transfer process.

If you need to make modifications to your domain record, I would recommend that you wait at least 72 hours after making any changes before submitting the domain for transfer.

Jimmy,

I also have quite a bit experience in this area.

Regarding your e-mail contact, as mentioned in the previous msg, that will generally be used to authenticate you (unless you chose one of the other two uncommon methods for authentication).[nbsp][nbsp]Often people use a different REPLY-TO address setting on their e-mail, then the actual address (I do this for purposes of e-mail forwarding to several addresses) -- I have found that it seems to fail authenticating you if it finds that discrepency.[nbsp][nbsp]So, if it fails, this is another thing to look at.

Just give it a try and follow the steps.[nbsp][nbsp]It's very clunky, but it actually does work .... eventually.

Incidentally, the transfer is generally handled on the receiving end.[nbsp][nbsp]So, while I'm not familiar with DOTSTER, you would generally originate a transfer request over there.[nbsp][nbsp]That should be very simple.[nbsp][nbsp]And with the services that I currently use, it is automatic from there ... as long as there is matching Admin OR Tech contact info as mentioned in the previous msg.
