I need to know the name server for ladysmith.lib.wi.us

I'm having a brain burp or something this morning; can't figure out how to look this up, can't remember what a non-TLD name is called, probably should just go back to bed. Can anyone help me out? TIA.

Hi Jazz,

I did a ping of the domain name: ladysmith.lib.wi.us, which gave me the IP number.

Then I did an IP lookup at Arin.net and got the following information:
WISCNET (NETBLK-WNET-BLOCK198)
780 Regent Street - Suite 305
[nbsp]Madison, WI 53715

Netname: WISCNET-BLOCK1
Netblock: 198.150.0.0 - 198.150.255.255
Maintainer: WISC

Fax- 608/262-9085

Hope this helps :)

You can also use 'dig' (domain information groper, UNIX command), which gets you the answer straight away;
ladysmith.lib.wi.us.[nbsp][nbsp][nbsp][nbsp]59m26s IN NS[nbsp][nbsp][nbsp][nbsp]athena.mscfs.edu.
ladysmith.lib.wi.us.[nbsp][nbsp][nbsp][nbsp]59m26s IN NS[nbsp][nbsp][nbsp][nbsp]dns.uw-mad.wiscnet.net.
ladysmith.lib.wi.us.[nbsp][nbsp][nbsp][nbsp]59m26s IN NS[nbsp][nbsp][nbsp][nbsp]dns.uw-mil.wiscnet.net.

Or you can use nslookup -querytype=ns ladysmith.lib.wi.us (on Unix or Windows 2000)

Thanks, guys! It was just too complicated for me this morning. That's exactly the info I need.

I find the programme Visual Route handy for this kind of thing. I suppose WS_Ping Pro can help too, but I can't remember where I put it...
