View Full Version : Joker "change"
It doesn't look like any reason for concern, but Joker domain renewals are actually registrar transfers from CORE to CSL (as of who knows when).[nbsp][nbsp]It is explained as being due to growing large enough to be accredited by ICANN to register domains directly.

It is explained as being due to growing large enough to be accredited by ICANN to register domains directly.
(1) Joker.com has always been a division of CSL.
(2) CSL originally was not an ICANN accredited registrar so they used CORE who is an ICANN member to re-sell domain registrations.
(3) CSL has now become a member of ICANN so they no longer need to re-sell through CORE.
(4) I doubt size (volume) has anything to do with it. Most of the ICANN qualifications have to do with meeting financial and technical requirements.

I doubt size (volume) has anything to do with it. Most of the ICANN qualifications have to do with meeting financial and technical requirements. Don't you think volume, financial, and technical are pretty much one and the same in this case?
No disagreement with 1-3, as they are simply explanations of that which I skimmed over...

Don't you think volume, financial, and technical are pretty much one and the same in this case?
No, they are three distinct requirements.
Volume - there are no ICANN requirements for domain registration volume to become certified. You can become certified and register no domains if you wish.
Financial - you must put up the required amount of cash and deposits to have your application processed.
Technical - you must implement an infrastructure to communicate with the main Registry using the RRP (Remote Registry Protocol) and maintain the database of registered domains, whois services, etc., etc., etc.
So, if you have a lot of cash lying around but no technical capability, you cannot get certified. If you are real smart but broke, you can't get certified. If you are both smart and rich, you're in!
However, registration volume is not part of the equation (other than how long it takes you to achieve your ROI), that is. :)

I realize they're different by definition.[nbsp][nbsp]What I mean is, don't you think the three items pretty much go hand in hand in the majority of cases?
