Seven domains of the future on the World Wide Web were selected on Thursday and .web wasn't one of them!

What happened I wonder?

The seven are:

dot-biz, dot-info, dot-name, dot-pro, dot-museum, dot-aero, and dot-coop

Here's the link to the full story.

In all, there were 47 applications for new suffixes.
Board members rejected .kids for children and .health for prescreened health information. They also dismissed .tel for telephone numbers, .geo for Web addresses based on location and .web over concerns that it has already been unofficially registered.
Hmm.. color me confused.

From what I have read about the new TLD's, there will be high registration prices for .biz and others. Running like $2,000.00 for Registration and like $250 to maintain.

This will be to keep people from turning these new TLD's into what the .com's became (not what they were intended for).

there might be higher registration prices because new registers have dreams of getting fat...

I like that the .com's are more accessible now with multiple registers, and think that more names has made browsing easier not harder.[nbsp][nbsp]

Big companies already had their .com's long ago, and if not, they will be willing to pay $2500 to get their dot com either through legal measures or by just 'buying out' the good .com.

But having the inital price low allows lots of earthlink.com/~propworks to be transformed to propworks.com which is easier for me to remember.

But if .biz will go for $2500 all the more power to them... Should help keep them from catching on :)
