View Full Version : Anyone else waiting for Jan. 16th?!? >>>
Ending my visitor status? Not for awhile. I still have quite a bit of working bugs out and time in production. I am thinking around March, May, or June.
This time I'm even writing a business plan,[nbsp][nbsp]http://www.auctionpatrol.com/ubb/f14.gif

Oh, ok. So, are you going to use Joker's nameservers? I just assumed you'd park the domains here at FQ. Does that not end visitor status? I guess not.
I don't think parking domains w/ FQ gives you Site Owner Status as well, you really wouldn't be a Site Owner (and I beleive someone asked this months ago and there was a similiar complaint).
FQ: You guys should really look into automating the whole domain parking/pointing/redirecting process, that way you guys could offer parking fully free (without that $25 thing though)! Just make the dom go to a "This is a parked domain" page that has ads for FutureQuest on it AND loaded with ValuClick or TeknoSurf or Flycast banners on it. It sounds very feasable, but I am not sure if this has setbacks and things that would make this unable to do. Just an idea. :)

EDIT:
No one is counting down to domain registration nirvana with me? DEB! I'd figure at least YOU would! (Tell me honestly, did TeRRa anticipate this and hide the credit cards yesterday? :) )

Believe it or not I don't purchase my domains from Joker.com -- I use Register.com for my new domains and I purchased my long domains from RegisterNames.com -- I like the management areas that Register.com provides for keeping changes simplistic and having everything all together...
As far as Free Domain Parking... there are services just for that type of thing Register.com being one of them.[nbsp][nbsp]With the "free ones" yes, this stuff is paid for via the advertising.[nbsp][nbsp]It works much the same as hosting.[nbsp][nbsp]If you're ok with having banner and pop-ups etc on your site with less services there are many places available to host a site for "free" since it's being paid for by the advertisers.
Free Parking = Banners and usually some email forwarding.[nbsp][nbsp]Even if "automated" it still costs to keep everything up and running etc... and to cover those costs you'll need to have a 'marketing team' working on selling the space to the advertisers etc etc etc...
Paid Parking (w/FQ) = No Banners and a full catch-all pop email account. Again it costs to keep this up and running.
Its just a matter of preference for the site owner.[nbsp][nbsp]If you are only needing a 'place holder' for the domain a freely parked domain will work fine.[nbsp][nbsp]However if you plan on using the email address with your biz cards etc then you'd probably find it worth it to pay the small fee to have the site "clean" w/o banners and have a fully functional email account...

[nbsp]- Nothing is Free. It really is.
Sorta the response I expected from, knowing full well your loyalty to Register.com! :)
You know what? If in one or two hours their site isn't changed and they go back on their word I am gonna be incredibly ticked! I will lose all faith in them! They will hear from me! But, I'll still use their service. :)

E-mail Sent:Hello!
It should be around midnight, JANUARY 16TH, right now but your site has not changed (and the domain prices have not changed).
When will the changes take place? I am pretty sure that the e-mail I received around one month ago stated that the change would happen 00:00 Central European Time on January 16?
Thank you very much for your help![nbsp]
Waiting for site change AND e-mail reply...
Becoming annoyed... waiting... I think I am gonna go buy books off of BN.com and then check Joker later/tomorrow.

*places a 10' pole between himself and Tatu*[nbsp][nbsp];)[nbsp]
Is anybody else out there waiting for 00:00 CET, January 16th as feverishly as I am?
Just what is January 16th, you ask?
The day Joker allows you to register domains from anywhere between one and ten years!
One domain for one year = $16-$18!!!
I think they are 7 or 8 hours ahead, so domain pricing should go into effect TODAY around 5 or 4 PM (EasternST).I am ready to pounce and register 6-7, fellow domainaholics beware! :D :D :D

:)[nbsp][nbsp]I was going to ask if you were waiting anxiously, information already typed in, finger hovering perilously over the mouse button, pointer in turn hovering perilously over "send," sweat dripping from your brow as the most important countdown of the new millenium takes place, waiting to see who the last laugh is on...[nbsp][nbsp]:P

Well, Tatu, I guess that will end your "visitor" status here, no? ;)
Thanks for the heads up. I may just register one myself. Thinking of putting up an IRO.

I would just like to officially announce -- specifically for Tatu and Sheila's benefit :) -- that despite my critical statements, I did what I originally said I would and tried Joker.com![nbsp][nbsp]Granted, I tried it out on a couple "unimportant" .net IRO's that I doubt will be discovered by more than a couple errant users a year, but I must admit Joker's service was quite fast -- less than 12 hours for confirmation through dns setup, if I'm not mistaken.[nbsp][nbsp]The directions even seemed pretty clear.[nbsp][nbsp]Does anyone know if they re-translated?[nbsp][nbsp]I seem to recall it being more difficult to follow before.[nbsp][nbsp]At any rate, my report of this experience would have to be quite positive, and I can only hope that it remains that way.
Dan
Charles: *Humph!* :D
You can count on adding John (from AuctionTribune.com) to the list, too. ;)
