It isn't likely to get much cheaper.

Opensrs.com, a subsidiary of tucows.com, has opened their program for potential resellers.[nbsp][nbsp]The cost is $13 (or less) per registration per year, and you can get a 10-year registration for $100.

You will have to fill in a form and fax it back to them - but there are no additional charges.[nbsp][nbsp]One other thing, though - payment MUST be made by wire transfer or check - no credit cards.

See ya, Netsol and Register... and even Joker!

I'm confused -- are they registering domains, reselling registration abilities, or both?[nbsp][nbsp]If they're just reselling, does that mean any of us can be a domain registrar for only $13?[nbsp][nbsp]That's a scary thought.

Sounds like it's a very new project, so maybe more info will be forthcoming.

There's an article about this at http://www.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/01/11/cheap.domains.idg/index.html

The part of the article that really gets me is Network Solution's quote:

We have no plans to cut our fees.[nbsp][nbsp]We think that $70 for a two-year registration of an Internet identity is a good value.
LOL[nbsp][nbsp]And AT&T used to think $0.25 a minute for long distance was a good value.

Dan, Opensrs.com is primarily looking for resellers.[nbsp][nbsp]There is no minimum and it is possible to register a single domain name with them, but it looks like it takes a bit of effort to get everything set up.[nbsp][nbsp]Two other indicators that they are targeting resellers: the fact that they require clients to send a check or wire transfer before registering any domains and the fact that they pay each client a rebate at the end of the quarter based on the number of domain names regsitered.

Prediction: within 3 months there will be hosting companies that will offer "free" domain name registration with an annual contract.
