Paul:

We're in Canada, and we looked into .ca domain names last winter (Jan-Feb). As far as we could figure at that time, to register a .ca domain name, the domain name (bit before the .ca) had to be the name of a federally registered corporation in Canada.[nbsp][nbsp]

For provincial level domain names ( .on.ca , .bc.ca , etc), I *think* the name had to be registed provincially, but I'm not sure.

Sorry, I can't seem to find the information anymore, hope someone else can provide it.

The policy on .ca domain registration is pure idiocy. Canada's a great country but they love regulating things to death. Here's a copy of a reply I received from the registrar when I looked into it.

An organization may apply for a national CA domain provided it is a
Canadian legal entity with an office in Canada which does not
already have a registered CA domain name and which:

- is federally incorporated, or

- owns or leases offices in more than one province/territory (please
include postal addresses AND TELEPHONE NUMBERS, and fax documentation
to 604-822-5485), or

- owns a suitable Canadian registered trademark (e.g.
for xyz.ca the trademark must be "XYZ" exactly).

(It is planned that the CA rules may change in future.
Please see http://www.cira.ca. )

FQuest,

What's the policy on .ca domain names?
Can you (FQ) reserve them for us?
If not, where can they be registered?
Are there rules on who can register them (like Canadian citizenship required?)
What's the cost?

Thanks,
Paul
