View Full Version : Changing Ownership
Does anybody have the exact specs on changing the registrant of a domain name with Network Polutions? It is so confusing! What doexactly do they mean with a " "new" " registration agreement?

hello Tatu....
I had to do one of those this summer.
It is not too difficult.
See... the original agreement is between the original owner and internic.. (their TOS and renewal of the contract)
There is NO fee to do this, but takes a little more time. Ya go through their process (their email form), it takes you to a completed form you should print twice (that is what I did) and you will have to get them both notorized. Keep one on record incase one gets lost in the mail.
I tried faxing it, but it went un-noticed.[nbsp][nbsp](they say you can fax it after it has been notorized) I sent a copy to them certified mail and all was done within one week.
Not complicated, just a little bit of time.

PS.... if I can figure out how to do it, anyone can! *giggle*

No fee?
Well, you are required to pay anew for the domain name registration, as though you were acquiring it in the usual manner for the first time (as I understand it). That's in addition to anything you might pay the current registrant for the change of title. So unless the current registrant isn't asking for remuneration, it could get costly.
Hearts, I'm glad to find that someone here has done it before!
The only thing that is confusing me is this:
To get a new nic tracking number (or whatever) you need to submit a "New" Domain Name Registration Agreement, the Network S. site actually uses parentheses and doesn't explain what it means by that! Should the "new" Domain Name Registration Agreement include what the registrant-to-be wants it changed to or what I have their currently (just to get a NIC Tracking Number)?

1. The current payment status of the domain name must be "PAID." To check the payment status or make payment you may go to our Secure Online Payment System. If the message
you receive is "No payment is due at this time," then the status is PAID. If you get any other messages, the registration is not in a PAID status.
2. The new registrant must have a NIC tracking number. Before the process can be completed, the party that will hold the registration must have submitted a Domain Name Registration Agreement in conjunction with the RNCA (text version) by email to HOSTMASTER@INTERNIC.NET. Via email, a NIC tracking number will be sent to the individual who submitted the Registration Agreement. You will need this NIC tracking number later in this form.
here is the help from internic:

I had to come back and edit, cuz I did a legal name change not a transfer.[nbsp][nbsp]There were some changes since I was last there and things are different and appear easier. *sorry*

Stephen...
I had to do three of these this summer, I didn't have to pay internic any monies for the changing of the registrant. (unless there has been a MAJOR change with this. Things went as I posted above. And since I had a friend that is a notorary, I didn't even have to pay for her services! *grin*
If there is a selling between the two parties of the domain, internic will not be the one concerned about that billing. That domain is paid for for a period of two years.
If there was a misspelling of the domain and needed a new one, well, yes, there would be a new fee. But none of these were her questions or concerns -- i just simply answered what she asked. ;)[nbsp][nbsp]
<edit>I went to internic, and there was NO fee for this service. Saw that there were some changes since I had to last use their forms. *they appear a lot easier than the one I had to use!* </edit>

Thanks, Hearts.
About 85% clear to me now, so I am gonna try my luck for the switch over of BAN's domain name to the new owner ( www.BannerMall.com (http://www.BannerMall.com) for those of you who are wondering).
