I just tried to register two domains: manifestimage.com and manifestimage.net
Everything went smoothly until I got the confirmation e-mail that said manifestimage.com could not be registered. This despite the fact that no whois server, CORE or otherwise, had any record for it.
I immediately went to register.com and had no problem registering it.

I registered my domain with joker.com about the second day or so that they were taking registrations (obviously several weeks ago). Seemed fine. My domain was up and running within 24 hours.
I did have to get up some nerve before going with them, but decided if anything went wrong, I speak/write German, so what the hey. I'd try it.
I did have a problem, however, when I tried to change info on my registration record. I wanted an e-mail address changed. Their site certainly didn't make it clear how to submit changes to the record (I haven't visited it in several weeks, so it may have changed).
Anyhow, I wrote them an e-mail asking for the procedure, and got no response for almost a week, so I wrote a second e-mail with both English and German in it, asking for the same info. After almost a week and a half of no-response, I complained to the secretariat at CORE.
Next day I got a response from joker.com and within 24 hours my e-mail address in my record was updated.
Can't say as I'd recommend them, but I don't regret going with them.
At least not yet.

I registered a domain a few days ago with Joker and set up the parking site w/FutureQuest ... Bottom line, the DNS servers had it the next day, and I saved about $30 over Network Solutions.
I'll continue on this path for a while I guess, for the price and speed you can't beat this
