View Full Version : New domain denomination (.art....)
Hi,
was the Internic not supposed to allow new denomination for domaine names other than net/org/com ?
Such as .ART ?
I wish to know if it's possible to register an .art ?
Thanks,
Benj
They aren't ready for prime-time yet.. but are being worked on.[nbsp][nbsp]I'm anxious myself to see the new TLDs go live...
The proposed TLDs are
.NOM - Individual or Personal Nomenclature
.INFO - Information Services
.SHOP - Businesses offering Goods to Purchase
.FIRM - Businesses or Firms
.WEB - Activities related to the World Wide Web
.ARTS - Cultural and Entertainment Activities
.REC - Recreational Activities
There is a way to reserve the domain names now -- but no guarantee yet that they will in fact be available...

Hi Deb,
This is exciting news!
Could you point us to a URL where we could learn more.
Thanks,

Whoa, Whoa! Don't get too excited people!
I remember reading about all these new denominations a year ago. They were first expected to be out in October or November of last year, so it could still be awhile.
Of course all the domain pirates will instantly be nabbing up domains like Get.Info, Web.Shop, Law.Firm, etc. so I won't even be trying.

So True!
Most of the domain registration companies for the new TLDs have been "taking names" for over a year and a half now.[nbsp][nbsp]They will be submitted "in-batch" as soon as they are able to.[nbsp][nbsp]First-come, first served.[nbsp][nbsp]The clog and frenzy in the first few weeks of the new TLD registrations will be an impressive sight indeed.[nbsp][nbsp]If you didn't register a cool "common" type name a year ago, don't expect to get what you want.
IMHO, .com will still be the premier TLD for ecommerce and web-presence.[nbsp][nbsp]Continue to be creative.

Thanks for the tip, Deb.[nbsp][nbsp]I protected myself and registered two of the new TLDs for subjects.net - subjects.web and subjects.info.[nbsp][nbsp]Thought about doing tygre.firm or tygre.shop, but I can't see those really catching on.[nbsp][nbsp]Hmm... wonder about super.shop...[nbsp][nbsp]dang not available LOL

Hmm... very very nice.[nbsp][nbsp]Lot of good words still left.
Looks like I will have a hefty domain registration bill coming up soon LOL - but I have plans for all these names.[nbsp][nbsp]Better get my web development team together quick though...
