Me newbie.

Me no know what do.

I uploaded everything like they said, and I kept all the chmods to 755 in the cgi-bin like what was said in one of a million previous posts that I searched through. The truth of the matter is that I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing and I really want to get this thing off the ground.

So UBB tells me that I should be able to go to http://www.dianeursu.com/cgi-bin/cpanel.cgi?action=setmods and be on my way.[nbsp][nbsp]However, when I do this, I get a 500 Internal Server Error.[nbsp][nbsp]And it says to me:

"You moron! :P The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@dianeursu.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

The unfortunate thing is that I AM the server admin and I have NO CLUE what I'm doing.

Any advice in the right direction would be helpful.

Di :)

OK - I looked in logs_cgi and this is part of what I found regarding my UBB:

%% [Sun Feb 27 01:04:28 2000] POST /cgi-bin/guest.cgi HTTP/1.0
%% 404 /big/dom/xdianeursu/cgi-bin/guest.cgi
%error
script not found or unable to stat
%% [Sun Feb 27 17:51:22 2000] GET /cgi-bin/ HTTP/1.0
%% 403 /big/dom/xdianeursu/cgi-bin
%error
attempt to invoke directory as script
%% [Sun Feb 27 19:28:36 2000] GET /cgi-bin/cpanel.cgi?action=setmods
HTTP/1.0
%% 500 /big/dom/xdianeursu/cgi-bin/cpanel.cgi

Can anyone translate?[nbsp][nbsp]Any clues? Hints? Ideas?

Hm, I've never seen the "You moron!" part of the 500 ISE message.[nbsp][nbsp];)

It's very rare for a UBB to cause a 500 Internal Server Error.[nbsp][nbsp]The first things that come to mind are:
- Did you upload in ASCII?
- Permissions on the cgi-bin should be unchanged, or if you installed in a subdirectory, be 755 (NOT 777)
- Permsissions are correct?

All of the permissions in the cgi-bin are 755 and I uploaded in ASCII

The only time I've ever gotten a 500 error were (OK so not just one time)

1) Upload with the silly DOS CR/LF
2) Can't find the DB files
