View Full Version : Email Program
I came across this email program called the
Bat!.. and I tell you, after Eudora Pro crashing on me one too many times and trying out several programs like Pegasus etc. to handle multiple email accounts.. this little program is nice. Easy to set up.. some nice features, I think I found one that will suit my needs perfectly.
It can be downloaded here if anyone is interested:

Did you try Calypso? It seems to handle multiple users and accounts nicely.

Well, I'm downloading right now. Looks like a really nice program, and multiple pop support is always a must http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I like a lot of it's features from what I've read, and if it proves to be as nice as it says, I might just uninstall Outlook http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks for the link http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

The Bat! is a nice program; I bought it earlier this year. The few things I didn't like were the lack of html support (handy for certain mailing lists I subscribe to) and the simplistic editing functions. I was torn between keeping the Bat and purchasing Calypso, and finally went with the latter. Not to say that I wouldn't switch back to the Bat if some of its weak areas were addressed... :-)

well.. I gotta say something about this too. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
I downloaded calypso.. cuz Zeegraf suggested it. At first, there was a major snag. However, let me tell you, this is one awesome program. Not only did they work quick on this issue, the programmer came here to our forums to clear up any issues.
Not only that, but these people are really awesome! I have stayed in direct contact with them ever since, and found something about the program that I would like to see added, and do you know that they phoned me today, to discuss it?
Also, I don't ever see too many people go out of their way to make sure that their product is working up to customer satisfaction the way this company has.
It is very low in price, it has some awesome features, that Tommy has been so wonderful about pointing out.
I am sure you will like what you have, and it will serve its purpose, but nothing will ever top calypso. *just my opinion* http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Good to see Calypso pop up in another thread. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif Overall, I've found it the best email client for my needs. There are a few enhancements I'd like to see sometime down the road, and have suggested them to Calypso support:
1. MAPI support
2. Enhanced folder properties(ability to
purge by # of msgs or date, etc.)
3. Ability to select custom reply headers
when composing a reply
I just don't see how Eudora can claim to rule the email world with their buggy bloatware and indifferent support. With further development, Calypso could be a real challenger to the throne.

I'm still plodding along with The Bat!..and to be perfectly honest, I wanted to try Calypso but it kept crashing on me as well. I could never figure out what the problem was so I gave up.
I am just installing calipso right now, and it asked me in the middle of the installation:
-A read only file c:\windows\system\msvcrt.dll was found, do you want me to overwrite it...(something like this)
Of course not. I couldn't take the risk...
I didn't try it yet. I'll try after I restart the computer.
By the way; I found out that you can add new identities in outlook express, and you can password protect each persons identity. kind of netscape's. Netscape still doesn't allow multiple mailboxes for one person..
I am using outlook express for the last two months. ver5 crashes, or freezes these days.... But cong. microsoft, it is really nicer than ver4.

(Big brother's still watching!)
Checking in to make sure all is fine. As for the problem with msvcrt.dll - when you install most any Windows application, it requires a certain number of system components (DLL's). If the program was written to use a newer version of the DLL, then it will update the old one at install time. That is what you saw happening - Calypso had a newer msvcrt.dll and was going to update your older one, but the older one was read-only so it asked. There is nothing harmful in this - I would suggest you re-install and choose to overwrite it.
As for the person (Paul?) who tried to install Calypso and said it crashed - some more info would be helpful. You can send it directly to me at tommye@mcsdallas.com.
Thanks for using Calypso!

I'm downloading the program as I write this.
I used to be a big Eudora Pro user, then went to Outlook Express, now after a format, OE5 doesn't want to import its own messages back in. Anyone know how well this program handles imported messages? Sounds great though.
Thanks for the suggestion,
Daniel
Ok, edit time, I checked it out, and it looks to me that it only imports messages from eudora, is there a way to do a direct import of the .dbx files from OE5 or should I download eudora light and see if I can import the messages to there first then move them to this program, any input?

Are you talking about the .dbx or .mbx files from Outlook Express?
Daniel

The .dbx files from Outlook Express 5.0, the .mbx and .idx files are from OE 4.
thanks,
Daniel

since this thread is going again....
I want to add one of my favorite features with calypso is that every now and then, it allows you to back up your mailbox! I have found this to be very beneficial. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
As for this company backing up their product, they are totally outstanding! I personally have NOT encountered another company that can top their customer service.
BTW Tommy.... Congratulations, and sincerest wishes to you and your new wife!
