As I referred to in reply to Meikel's FTP thread, I just started using the freeware program CodeEdit, which I downloaded at ralimi.hypermart.net (http://ralimi.hypermart.net) .
I like it a lot, because it takes down to one window what I normally would have to work in three separate windows to do -- it has a raw HTML editting window, a browser preview window (which of course, only works if you call images from the same relative directories on your hd as on the server, but as long as you size your img tags, it can help a lot with formatting even without showing the images), and a built in FTP window. It also allows you to work on several files at once.
Once you connect to FTP, a button shows up a the top which is "save to server" -- clicking on this will upload the latest version of your open (on top) file. However, once you're connected, even if you disconnect, it doesn't seem to want to save to the harddrive anymore, both the "save to server" button and the "save to disk" button cause it to try to upload. I mean to fiddle with this a bit and see if I can correct it in my settings, else I will email the author about it.
It also doesn't want to download by FTP, and you can only upload opened HTML code files with it, and it doesn't seem to want to edit any other plain-text files, so you'll still want to keep your plain text editor and standard FTP programs ready on hand -- it isn't a replacement for those. Still, if you edit like us by tinkering a bit at a time, trying it out, and tinkering some more, this program can really simplify that part of your work.
