Hi,

I just want to let everyone know that I'm using LeechFTP program. It's a free FTP client and I never found a missing function (so far). You can find it at:

Thanks Meikel!

We've received many requests for the free utilities... I may end up putting in more tutorials for various free FTP programs...

I'll head over there today.

Greetings from someone who needs to write more tutorials and help files FAST!

Hi Meikel

We tried LeechFTP for a while, but we found it disconnected us every 10 minutes, even when were we active for all those 10 minutes (most programs or the FQ server disconnect after 10 minutes idle, but Leech would do it even when we weren't idle). Because we do a lot of tinkering by editing in our text editor, uploading, checking it in Netscape, and then tinkering some more, this got very annoying. If you don't tinker this way, though, it will probably work fine for you. It's definately prettier than WS FTP LE which is what we use now (it suits us better http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif)

We've also just installed CodeEdit on our puter, which is freeware and has a built in FTP and a built in browser preview window, but we haven't actually tried the FTP on it yet. We got it at ralimi.hypermart.net (http://ralimi.hypermart.net)

Let us know if you have the same problem, or if it was just a weird glitch on our puter.

1)
This disconnect thingy happens to me sometimes. Usually I don't keep an eye on the FTP client and suddenly it disconnects. It happens, because the main thread is not doing a thing except sending NOOPS while uploading. I believe that this NOOP is implemented to avoid disconnecting, but it's working a bit different here at FQ.

2) Gift for Deb
I did a small tutorial at
http://www.meikel.com/ftptutor/leech.htm
It needs some more formatting and editing in the story, but the basics is ready and won't change much.

Greetings from someone enjoying a totally free day

1) NOOP = No Operation... or No Op..
This means you are not doing anything but 'wasting time' to the FTP client.. if you 'waste' more then 5 minutes of time then server decides you don't need to be there and kicks you off.... this can VERY ANNOYING for those of us who work online and have to reconnect if we take 6 minutes to decide to upload... but it is helpful to the server to knock off those that just forget to disconnect. I fall into both catagories hehe

Hmmmm I'm wondering if we can give out "Most Valuable Site Owner" awards ???

Meikel thank you! That is great of you!! I certainly need all the help I can get when it comes to getting these tutorials on-line.

I WILL use it http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Greetings from someone who must repeat:

Ahem... ok Meikel.... now I've actually begun to read your tutorial...

folder
Of course the easiest way to get these files onto FutureQuest server was to just send them to FutureQuest support via email and ask them to do the work. But I found this method to be unsatisfactory....

If anyone wants to know how Meikel found a satisfactory way to build their sites they'll have to read the tutorials themselves http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Geee.. and I thought we had supported you well Meikel...

Greetings from someone laughing out loud http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Free tools?

Why not just send 'em to Nonags? They even rate the quality of each freeware program on a scale of 1 to 6.

http://www.nonags.com/ with multiple mirrors everywhere.

BTW, I use and like the freeware FlashFXP program, available at http://www.ozemail.com.au/~shark1001/ .
