Does anyone know how difficult the "refer a friend" form is to install and use? I know I can get one at Deadlock but I once tried, unsuccessfully, to install a perl chat room and I now lack the confidence to do anything requiring real Internet skills.
Hello Becky,
The one from Deadlock is extremely simple to install. I had it done in less then ten minutes. There is no scripting required on your end as they host the CGI part of it on their own site.
The refer a friend script that comes included with sites hosted by SUSOGI.net, Lils.net and FutureQuest.net only require one line of code to be placed on the page(s) you wish to refer...
There is also a refer script found on bignosebird.com that works great but would require you to install the script itself on your site inside a cgi-bin.
I hope this helps
Deb

hey man hearing that http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif I think we triped over ourselves a zillion time before we got any script running at all - and then it was really due to the way cgi access is set up on the site I was qworking on rather thasn my inabiltuy to get it -
then when I got used to working scripts inthat really funky way I moved again and had a regular cgi-bin kinda set up and tripped up again cuz I was so used to the weird way I had to configure satuff before - hehehe
it ainthat you dont got the skills or brain man - it cuold be the script itslef is crappy or the server you's trying to install it on is funky or maybe any one little piece of detail that was never mentioned inthe readme file tha is like way important and stuff
I dont know bou the script ya mentioned - I jsut wanted to say hey - so what if ya flubbed - keep at it - try didfernt things - fool around and stuff - once you findhte formula to getting cgi stuff to work on your site - it kinda all falls into place - but ya might have to flub up a lot to get there http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
ou might even get to the pojint hwre you can eveninstall stuff wehere the instructions is written in Dutch LOL (like where im at heheheits pretty dang funny if ya ask me - a htink ya have a hard time seting up with instructions in english hehehee)
anyway thats my pointles blather for the day http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
