Apple has launched their new notebook, the iBook (alas, only two colours so far -- "tangerine and blueberry").

I'd sure like to get me one of these someday . . . ;)

Nice... though I don't understand their color choices since the iMac tangerines were reported as the least popular of the colors and didn't sell well.[nbsp][nbsp]Should have gone with magenta or something.[nbsp][nbsp]Eh large corporations make no sense!

I wish the PC side would make kewel looking machines like that.

Notably absent from an otherwise feature-laden colorful laptop is DVD.

Apparently not everyone thinks it's so pretty . . . I noticed an article about it in Wired News yesterday, which said "Although it may look like a painted toilet seat . . ." or something to that effect.

Well, the reason there's no DVD is it's really meant as an educational machine - with the optional wireless network (11 Mbps!) and long battery life, Apple intends to sell a lot of these to the educational channel.

On the other hand, it sure would be nice to be able to cart around a nice powerful machine like that and be able to connect to the Internet from my bed or couch ;)

I'm sure if the demand is high enough, someone will develop a DVD drive to replace the CD rom in the iBook. But if you want the higher end features, you're better off splurging another couple hundred dollars for a full PowerBook.

The other thing- the iBook only has a 12.1 inch screen. The PowerBooks are much better for watching DVD :)
