View Full Version : Dumb little script (but possibly useful)

I ran across a cgi script (FrameIt 4.1) at www.davecentral.com (http://www.davecentral.com)

What it does is generate a frameset when someone clicks a link on your website. The linked page is in the 'main' frame and in the 'footer' frame is a link back to your site. I thought it was dumb at first, until I realized that 1) you can put a .html page in the footer frame and
2) configure/hack some other variables in the script very easily.

I don't have a need for this 'within' my website, but I have a free for all links page which I configured most of the links to show the 'footer' .html page, making it easy for the viewer to get back to my page (or anywhere else I would like to send them)

The home page for the script is www.verysimple.com/scripts/frameit.html (http://www.verysimple.com/scripts/frameit.html)

Here is one of my 'link to' pages with an example of what you can do in the 'footer' www.flowersource.net/cgi-bin/FrameIt.cgi?url=http://www.vdj.net (http://www.flowersource.net/cgi-bin/FrameIt.cgi?url=http://www.vdj.net)

All sorts of possibilities for the footer frame/.html

Mike

PS this script comes with a visitors log. Disable it during setup if you don't need it...it will get huge.

hehe - so I'm an example, huh? :)

I did something kinda similar with a "Search the Web" page I made. It had a small frame at the top like a little toolbar, where you type in your keywords, pick your search engine and hit 'Go'. The search engine's results come up in the bottom frame and as long as you don't click a link specifying target=_top then you could keep the "Search Bar" (as I called it) there all day while you surf :)

Only problem is when you go to a site like FQ's page with that neat lil bit of javascript to automatically break out of frames. I had it in[nbsp][nbsp]mine but had probs with it so I took it out...

Could potentially be useful though (thinking about the site I'm working on now... hmm....)

I was wondering which of our 'script addicts' would get to this one first. :)

The bottom might be used for a neat navigation bar... graphics etc... the size of the footer frame is a varible. I do need to do something about the java and graphics all over my main page.

script addictsHey! That's not fair - I can quit any time I want to. Honest. I just don't want to quit.

I'd love to stay and argue but I'm working on a sc- um, a letter to my, um, friend. Not a script or anything...

:)
