Would anyone know how to convert an image file to
a file with extension .ico ?
I have created a 16x16 pixel icon to put into the /
www/ directory so that users with IE.5 will see this icon
when they bookmark the files in /www/.
I have Photoshop Deluxe, Picture Publisher, Paint Shop Pro,
Fireworks, Widows Paint and cannot find a way to save the file as favicon.ico?
Any gurus out there?
Thanks
Vaclav

Thanks guys, particularly Andreas.
Went to the www.favicon.com (http://www.favicon.com) site and it lets you create
an icon right from the website(browser) for free. It took about five
minutes. They then email the .ico file to you and it's done.
Dan if you go to the favicon site your fears will be confirmed. The favicon.ico must be in every directory so that the server doesn't generate error when the surfer requests(bookmarks)a file in one of those 199 directories that don't have the icon.
Thanks guys

IE, by default, looks in the current directory first and works it's way down to the root directory until it finds favicon.ico - placing it in your root directory is just fine :)
Hope this helps.

Yes, you will continue to see the 404 errors, but that only means the browser is having to hunt the icon file down.

Hi Vaclav...
YouŽll find more information about MS IE Favicon at http://www.favicon.com
Here are some links to ProŽs with which you can make ".ico"-files:

Yes, Microangelo is the best - any programmer (who writes Windows software) would be lost without a good icon editor, and Microangelo is the best :)

From what I've read, you should be able to place the favicon.ico file in the 'www' directory and that should work for any bookmarked page throughout the site.[nbsp][nbsp]However, I have entries in the error log related to favicon.ico for several different directories.[nbsp][nbsp]Considering I have over 200 directories, please don't tell me I need favicon.ico in each one.[nbsp][nbsp]:(
Thanks,
Dan
