View Full Version : Where's the GOOD Clipart?

I'm about ready to give up. I need all sorts of quality, fast-loading clipart for a variety of environments. I've looked at clipart pages for weeks now and haven't found much that is good. Sure, I can find the same, tired animated GIFs and a few okay ones here and there.

I'm about ready to plop down my wallet and pay, and the one I keep thinking about is http://www.arttoday.com . They don't provide many freebies, but 750,000 items is a lot more than most sites and blows away any CDROMs you can buy.

Any suggestions welcome.

I know what ya mean.. *sigh* That is why I hardly ever put any graphics on my sites now.. they all look too webby.

Microsoft has a fairly extensive site, it is broken down in categories. If you have front page 98, there is a program with it called Image Composer, and from there it will take you directly to their clip art site.

If you would like I can look up the URL.

I ordered Corel Gallery 1 million. It is okay.

let me know.

also...

here is one of my favorite little places on the net.
GIFPILE www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/2681/home.html (http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/2681/home.html) http://members.home.net/billca/main.html (their mirror site)

it has some of everything.

Thanks for the link.

I run a couple of financial forums and they need some pics that change out fairly often. I need a serious look, not something childish like most of what I keep finding.

I was also trying to find a natural gas pipeline pic for another site and came up empty for 2 months.

I don't know about the majority... this is from personal experience... but things like the Corel clipart gallery I got were 'so so' pieces of 'art'... each image just slightly 'off' and low quality http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif But when I go to the discount shelf at places like Walmart and pick up a $5 CD of clipart... 90% of the time I end up with some pretty nice images I can use... go figure..

The other thing that leaves me mystafied is all of the 'rules' that come with many of the packages -- you can use the image here but not there -- you can not edit this image but you can edit that one -- if you use those images you must give credit to these people -- etc etc etc...

During my days of Web design for a living -- I became content just taking my own friggen snapshots of different things and using a scanner and a graphics program to see what I could come up with.

I was actually surprised many times by some of the kewl graphics that came out of it (playfull putt putt golf places work well!!!) http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

At one point I even set the kids to work at coloring things on Denny's placemats (a diner that has paper mats for the kids) scanning things like that worked out well and there wasn't any major 'rules' on them <grin>

Terra always says -- "Creative solutions for difficult problems" I think he's right http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

LOL! Tom you posted as I did... well Putt Putt and Dennys may not work for you <grin> but you get the idea http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

There may be something illegal about using the pic of a building someone else took.. but there is nothing illegal about using a pic of a building you take http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

*whew* deb.. I am tellin.. you said the "F" word. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

I know what ya mean. Although, this particular set of images that I got, I haven't even opened it. I just didn't posses any clip art, so I got some. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

For my children's site, I have started drawing some of my own.

----- corel gallery -----

well.. i opened up my gallery, and can say i am fairly pleased with it.. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif the discs aren't labeled for easy access, but i like the ability of editing the images and sizing them, and they allow ya to preview your selection with its alterations.. a before and after type thing.

Tom,

I actually put the money down for the Arttoday and have used it extensively. It's not expensive and does provide a lot of art, photos, and web art along with a few fonts.

It's only $29/year for full use and access.

I signed up for arttoday and it's good, not great. I did find some nuggets, and really like all the retro (1920's) art, but can't see a way to use that.

Even with 700,000+ images, it's difficult to find what I need. OTOH, they responded quickly to my request.

Tom,
If you're looking for specific graphics, you may want to describe what you're looking for. If any of us [or I should speak for myself..if I http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif] have what you need or can make something for you, we could help.

Or is it more you have an idea that when you see what you want you'll know it? http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I also go to miningco.com (http://miningco.com) and do a search on Clipart for web clip art. They're a links for links type page, but I can ususally find what I need there. Just takes a lot of time searching. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
