I have seen hearts and others have great graphics on their sites where they have taken a photo and created buttons, horizontal rules, and more from them....
How did you do that? I use Photoshop and have learned, just like I learn everything else, by accident. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I've accidentally made some cool graphics and could never remake them again http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
...but this time I'd like to learn this. I have PSP too, but prefer Photoshop 4.
Thank you in advance.

hey kiddo...
everything i learn is by pure accident too! http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
what I did was prob not the best... but for example. My Heartistic Designs site, I scanned this image that I found in a magazine, cut away what I didn't want and saved it as a .tif file. I learned that reusing a .jpg over and over causes a great loss of quality.
I use three different graphics programs that is why I chose to save the image as a .tif
This way I could shrink it without losing much quality in other programs... and reuse it as much as I wanted to. (i just never would save whatever changes I made to the original .tif, if I liked something that I did, I would "save as" whatever.jpg or whatever.tif)
for the most part I used Corel. For the bar.. i just selected a portion from the main image and then blurred it. Basically.. I just experimented with it to see what would come out kinda neat. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
In Corel, I could select whatever I wanted to use as to fill. SO I used my main image to fill.
There are countless ways to do this and it is kinda hard to explain.
Don't underestimate what you can do with PSP. ... as I have found this to be a useful tool. I have only just begun to play around with it.
I guess it would be easiest to say, everything was done manipulating the main image, I just kept experimenting with all the different kinds of options in Corel.
Oh yeah-- I keep a steno pad handy, to keep notes on color codes, special effects number settings, and fonts and such. I just learned it is a whole lot easier to write things down and If I really liked something, I kept practicing it to see if I could repeat it or improve it. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Hey Auteur,
We use a bunch of freeware graphic tools, like Reptile, to create funky backgrounds.
There's also programs like Buttonz and Tilez that help you create things really quickly and easily.
Beka uses PSP and iPhoto Plus 4, with our scanner, to create some stuff.
I think the key is to play with different programs until you find one you like. Variety is the spice of life and all that http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
Take care
