I couldn't believe they actually covered this on our local CBS news broadcast here as well![nbsp][nbsp]

And of course the number was busy!

This was covered on CNN about four days ago.[nbsp][nbsp]I laughed my head off when I saw that - but you gotta admit it's unique.[nbsp][nbsp]Now, there's always a guy there to answer - he says he does it just for the kick of it.

If you call that number (don't remember it) and get the reply

"Mojave Phone Booth"

you'll know you've reached him :)

Ted, you called?!? I guess if it isn't a total joke I wouldn't mind a dollar or two for a good laugh...

I'll tell you what, I was sorely tempted.[nbsp][nbsp]Only problem is that it costs more than a buck a minute from Thailand.

If I'm lucky, my next job will be to lower that cost to about 10 cents/minute :)

Here's what happens: The lonely phone booth supporters get the notion to put a web cam at the phone booth in the desert, with, naturally, a supporting web site. Site becomes popular and begins accepting ads. Eventually, they add lonely phone booth web cam locations worldwide (Siberia, Sahara, Gobi, Antarctica, etc.) and incorporate. IPO is wildly inflated. AT&T and Microsoft buy one-eighth of the stock each and offer an infusion of funds in efforts to get their corporate feet in the lonely phone booth.com market. MSNBC and 20/20 do feature pieces. The phone booths become so popular that new roads, tourist industries, and housing to support tourist industry workers spring up around them. Eventually the phone booths become surrounded by suburban sprawl. The phone lines to the booths are perpetually busy and the web servers fail nightly. Lonely Phone Booth.com sells out to AOL who do nothing with the booths whatsoever, while the lonely phone booth originators invest their profits in Apple.

ROFL! Don't forget Disney launching a few lonely phone booth world themeparks here and there, too.
