View Full Version : changing mlm to something else?

I'm curious, though this isn't a big deal since I haven't even setup a mailing list yet:

Can the mailing list from and management addresses be easily changed from @mlm.mydomain.com to something else like @list.mydomain.com or @subscription.mydomain.com?[nbsp][nbsp]For some reason, I keep seeing mlm as "multi level marketing" and just don't like it :)

(But I really like the smooth operation of the mailing list manager despite its abbreviation :)

I don't see why people make a big deal. MLM = mailing list manager. I tend to like it that way and hope it stays.

It's a nine page roller coaster ride...

Without further Adieu, the infamous MLM thread:

So Terra, if we have an opinion not previously expressed in that other mammoth MLM thread, should we do it here or there?

Ben

P.S. "lists.mydomain.com" because it's a VERY common way of doing it. Why reinvent the wheel and it sure beats "majordomo.mydomain.com" :)

P.P.S. Perhaps you should just add it to the CNC so we can choose our own. Heck, more than one even! That'll take you...what?...10 minutes? :)

Oh, no. If we're going to start that up again, let me suggest:

lm

= List Manager

Just drop the initial "m".

I like it short and sweet.

My vote would be list (simplicity), but either ml (mailing list) or lm (list manager) would also be better than mlm...[nbsp][nbsp]just cant get past multi level marketing...

Sorry not to have searched first. It's really nice to have a host where I can say "no, no it works great.[nbsp][nbsp]I just don't like the acronym :)"

There are so many different variables that come into play with changes required to every domain both in the DNS and also QMail routing...[nbsp][nbsp]It is not trivial by any means, which is why I asked for a new name back then as our DNS was going through an overhaul...[nbsp][nbsp]Last week I just wrapped up a month long project on another massive DNS upgrade and conversion so that window of opportunity has now passed...

Right now, there need to be multiple associations to the Acronym - as such there are many in life with multiple meanings...

'MLM.' will be around for quite a bit longer, but if this is unacceptable for your list than you may want to seek out free or paid email list services from other companies...

Right now, we are not accepting any new ezMLM name suggestions, as now would not be the best time to even think about the massive changes required to do so...[nbsp][nbsp]Maybe later when the QMail SmartHub system is being designed I will once again open this topic for suggestions/debate/flames...

What about setting up aliases to forward all mail sent to listname@yourdomain.com to go to listname@mlm.yourdomain.com

I also set up aliases for the subscribe and unsubscribe emails as well.[nbsp][nbsp]ie. listname-unsubscribe@yourdomain.com goes to listname-unsubscribe@mlm.yourdomain.com or something like that.

that's what i do and it works fine.
