View Full Version : Help test out my site, please?

I've been working on putting up a new site for my students and parents.
My two major attempts right now are:

mailing lists: announcement only. Parents (or students) can
auto-subscribe, and then I can post announcements such as "progress reports handed out in class today...ask your child to share it with you"
or
"This Friday's test will cover Chapter 2" and such.

Discussion Boards: A place where students can post questions to get help with homework or studying for tests, or to offer help to others. To protect students and keep their names and e-mail addresses private, this section is password protected.

Finally, late last night (or should I say early this morning) I think I got all the mechanics working. It still needs to be prettied up, and there are still broken links.
BUT, I would really appreciate your help testing out if the mailing lists and discussion boards are working
properly.

If you have time to go through the registration process and trade a few e-mails back and forth with me, or post to the discussion boards after your password has been approved, that would be great.

Let me know about any problems you see, things that don't work, or suggestions you have for improvement.

The page for the mailing lists and discussion boards is at
http://www.thinkspot.net/materdei/resources/

I will have to delete all messages and unsubscribe all tester/helpers on Monday night so that when school starts on Tuesday, all is fresh for my students.

Thanks to anyone who can help,

Sheila King

Looks good, Sheila.

Problems:[nbsp][nbsp]my password for the discussion board, once assigned, did not work.

Got some 404's, which I expected, and some 404's which I didn't expect - specifically, the link to the lists.

Got a 403 trying to access "During the 1999-2000 school year I'm teaching:

A.P. Calculus
Intermediate Algebra
A.P. Computer Science
"

which presumably means you have blocked public access to those directories.

Only the summer work answers for Calculus seem to be linked correctly at this time.

Let me know if you want me to give it the once-over again later! ;)

OK, thanks Ted. Apparently I have a number of problems. Gotta go grocery shopping right now. Will check it out later and post an update to this thread when I'm ready for more testing (after I think I have it fixed).

Sheesh. And I was so confident, I wasn't even going to ask people to test it. Sure glad I did ask. How embarrassing if I sent my students there and then they all came back the next day telling me my site was broken!

OK, I think I've fixed everything.

Try it again please, everybody!

To Ted: I was able to log in just fine using your UserID and Password. I will e-mail them to you just to make sure what YOU think they are is what I think they are.

Hi Sheila!
[nbsp][nbsp]Okay, I got a 404 on the About Mrs. King page, NCTM link.[nbsp][nbsp]
[nbsp][nbsp]Also, the Mater Dei High link from Mrs. King's Home page was "unavailable"
[nbsp][nbsp]I submitted a parent access request for the discussion board, waiting for a reply.[nbsp][nbsp]

Aside from that, I thought it looked great![nbsp][nbsp]What a great resource for parents and students!

Looks good, Sheila :)[nbsp][nbsp]Everything seems to be working fine, the ez-mlm looks the same as the ones I set up for testing so I doubt you will have any problems there.

List appears to be working fine, just finished the whole process.[nbsp][nbsp]However, I wonder if you might consider making the unsubscribe process only one step without requiring confirmation.[nbsp][nbsp]That's the way I have it, I think...

Well done - and just in time for school :)

I just wanted to thank those who logged onto my site and sent in form registrations, and especially those who posted to the Chat boards.

Having people check my site sure found the mistakes a lot more quickly than I ever would have! Also, having to process passwords and receiving the form e-mail helped me realize some things I needed to tweak on that process.

Thanks again!

OH!
P.S.
I've reset the password file, so if you had registered, you won't be able to reach the chat boards any more (not that you probably want to).
